Default Transmission with the same feels like neutral problem

2007 H3 150,000 miles was driving 2 days ago and after stopping at a red light, I could not go , car would not move. Turned on hazards put in park and then tried reverse. Worked fine, put iback in to drive and took off with no issue. About an hour later , I yielded as I turned and all of a sudden nothing again. Got the H3 off the roadway and sat there for a few minutes while calling for assistance, I popped the hood, checked the fluid and it was low. Thought was kind of odd as I had just had the oil changed 2 weeks prior( assuming he had the fluids checked when he changed the oil.). I shut it off and turned it back on(this happened in about a 15 to 20 min time span) I started it back up and once again it went in to gear and shifted just fine. I had my help follow me to the auto parts to get fluid , before I could get there as once again I stopped at a red light and nothing, stuck once more. Had a tow truck come and took it to shop. There were no noises except a slight possibility of low roar( prob not right word) My H3 was driving just fine . No jerking no hard shfting etc...Of course my normal garage dpes not do transmissions unknown to me at the time and here I sit reading the best information that one could hope for from other hummer owners.. Any ideas of where to go from here?

I'm confused by your question. If I read your story correctly, you never got a chance to add trans fluid. Wouldn't that be the first step? Then follow the advice you already read in this thread?

Hi Justin, sorry about that confusion, yes I did add flyid but I was frustrated and sitting in the middle of the road basically and I just called aaa and had them take it to the garage. Since they dont do transmission work it is kind of useless but I did not know this at the time. A friend of mine suggested the filter and flyid change and I am just wondering if that would be the general consensus at this time? The fluid was not so low tp have caused this in my opinion

150K Miles caused it. Surprises me how few people actually know what happens when an auto transmission is toast and needs a rebuild? LOOK at the fluid wiped off the dipstick on a white cloth, it is like a book and tells you all the story you need to know. Brown burnt smelling coffee is BAD.

When was the last time the Trans Fluid and Filter were changed? How often and at what intervals was that basic service done before since new? Has the vehicle been used to tow?

I’m having same issues. I’ve done all then obvious elementary things stayed like checking and sniffing the trans fluid and also had the trans rebuilt by a reputable shop. The problem came back. He changed the TCM(transmission control module) and it helped for a while but has returned again. It was a salvage part as a new one would have to be programmed by dealer.
When removing the old one after driving a while to make it fail, the old one was very hot. Honestly I’ve done all the simple and expensive stuff too and to no avail. Had something similar happen to my Chevy pickup and changing the switch module on the dash fixed it. I’m going to give that a try but had to order it. Actuator motors and fluid changes haven’t fixed this issue and mine is doing exactly the same as in that video only not moving until you turn it off and start it back. Something is resetting to cause it to work again. Had to be electrical in my opinion but who knows. Love this 2008 H3 but frustrating.
