Default Transmission or Differential?

2007 Hummer H3

To start sorry for my English. I was driving my Hummer and I a loud bang sounded from the bottom of the Hummer while I was driving. The speed started coming down soon as the noise pop. I had to get it tow back home after that. So when I got the car home I check the gears to see what was going on. It's not going forward or backward. Please let me know that my Hummer is running on one driveshaft for the back wheels, not the front. I'm trying to see if my truck is not getting any gears because of my back differential ? Also if I plug in the check engine light checker would it give me a code for that?

Why don't you pick up with your old Thread about this same problem with pics you provided so everyone can recall what a mess the drive train is in your H3? Members offered advice there, might want to look at that. Asking the same question many times expecting a different result.......... uhh, doesn't usually accomplish much.

Doc, I’m fairly new to this forum and have never been on a forum where you’re discouraged to pull up old threads and revive them. Typically it’s been encouraged from my experience on other forums. When is it ok to go back and post on an older thread, and is there a time limit as to what is old, and to not revive? I ask as I’ve been careful to not post & revive an old thread as I’m going back & reading threads that are new to me. But in this case you’re asking the OP to pick up on his old thread vs starting a new one. This is why I’m asking?

The rear diff is very powerful. Haven't heard of anyone breaking it. Remove the cardans and spin the transmission. Usually breaks the splines at the front cardan (the weakest point). Sometimes breaks the front differential. You can drive without a front gearbox by blocking the transfer case.

This is because the OP is recirculating his same old problem, skipping all the questions asked and answered, pics provided, and full disclosure. It is HIS Thread to dig up. Necro-bumping is primarily digging up any old azzed thread by tacking on the end to either ask a question of posters who have not been here for years, about a problem that has been resolved or solved in many threads already, or in mindless delight that you found the old thread and just had to share your wonderful find with the world............

He could have started this one and linked back to his prior thread, this one... 2007 H3 Wont move in any gears

Ok so here's a update. I just got back to the u.s.a and had time to check it a bit today. I turned it on. put it on price. both driveshaft spins but loud noise coming from the back differential I'm not sure if its low on fluid or what I'm going to check that tomorrow.
