Tire Pressure: The Great Debate
I?ve read through countless posts on the subject with my Hummer H3 and Jeep Wrangler and realize that nobody really agrees as to the optimal PSI once the OEM tires are replaced with something larger and with a different load range, etc.
The Hummer H3 gurus even have different opinions. I think Doc Olds recommends 38psi and Schwarttzy goes with 35psi. Both of these guys really know the in and outs of the H3 and I have relied on posts from both for years for many repairs and issues.
Of course, the chalk test always comes up and I?ve used that many times, but just curious as to what everyone else with a similar setup is running (cold).
Per the door jamb label, the original tires were:
Size: P265/75R16
Load Index: 116
Load Range: SL
Speed Rating: T
Cold PSI: 30
Current tires:
Size: 35x12.50R17 LT
Load Index: 125
Load Range: E
Speed Rating: Q
Cold PSI: ??
Thanks,
Eric

I?m running Rocky Mountain A/T LT 33? Load Range E; 38-39 psi seems to be the sweet spot for them. After 10k miles, they are wearing even. Anything higher than 41-42 psi and these tires start to cup at the bottom.
My wife?s H3 Alpha is running Toyo Open Country HT II LT Load Range E; 38-39 psi is not enough for them, as I usually see a bit of ?bulging? at the bottom of the tire at this psi. So we run them a little higher around 42-43 psi which seems to be the sweet spot for them; after 15K miles, they have worn very evenly.
definitely run the chalk test and see what works best with your vehicle 👍
