Default Sunroof blues

Alright guys so I’ve bought myself a 2006 h3 I had a good idea of what I was looking for and I feel like I found a good one adventure package 125000 miles but it’s been giving me the business since I got it first it was the pcv orifice and a bad front crankshaft seal a leaky power steering pump then we got some rain and I learned about the sunroof drain grommets now comes the new problem I ran in to town for a few things from the grocery and opened the sunroof no problem then I closed it and realized that if you go passed the closed position it raises the back of the glass which I thought was cool but the problem came in when I hit the switch to auto open which it seemed to do fine but then hit the switch to auto close and it stopped about 4 inches short so with a little back and forth in the parking lot I got it to close all the way but now it will just crack open a bit and just lift the glass to a closed position with a noise as if has jumped some gears I don’t have garage space to get it inside and pull the glass as to see better any suggestions would be appreciated and pictures would be fantastic thanks guys

Welcome brother...

A good place to start would be to use the search feature then come back for some other more specific things...

best bet. if it's closed fully. forget it exists till the summer. you might realize you never use it then you have no issues with it any longer.

I've had this happen on mine and found it to be an error in the system. Like a bug so to speak. It would just keep doing it. So down comes the entire head liner and the testing commences. In my case I was having water get into the the H3 because of all the joints in the sun roof leaking. I did Silicone them from the underside and top side completely. Now it only weeps with heavy rain. Which I've just accepted as of now. It sucks but the headliner coming out will mean I'm getting a brand new sun roof and used (to me new) replacement headliner to go back in. And ill be hiring that job out lol!

There is a thread or two here, one where a guy took the sunroof apart, found a worn gear, scrounged up a replacement gear on Amazon or the like, cleaned the track, lubed it, reassembled and all was good. Do the search thing.
