Default stereo issues with pac adapter and CRUX adapter

I have read and read and read a lot of threads here and other sight but I cannot find and answer to the problem I have. I have a 07 Hs3X with monsoon. I am trying to install a Sony stereo in the truck but am not having any luck doing it. A little history the junk stereo that was installed and working kind of use a scosche adapter but the red keyed wire was on a toggle switch to turn it on and off. I purchased a new sony stereo and pac adapter when I tested the power wires coming out of the adapter I had power on the yellow and black not the red one. So I figured the unit was faulty and returned it. I the purchased a CRUX SOOGM-15 from Crutchfield and have the same thing but this time when I turn the key on, I have no power tothe gauges only a check engine light. Any ideas?

Yeas I know, I have BFG K02's sitting here waiting to go on. This is how I purchased the h3. I have the entire interior gutted at the moment fixing the sunroof drains, new seal around the sunroof glass, cleaning everything and trying to install a new stereo. Had to replace the transfer case and repair the front driveshaft.

Sounds like a hack job of the OEM wiring with that toggle switch.
Are the factory connectors still there or all chopped up?
If chopped up, you will need to chase this red wire to it's origin.

Yes, prior owner made a custom mess that you now need to figure out.

On a side note, there have been bad CRUX adaptors, mine used to freak out (power glitch) once and a while when you hit the brakes couple years back, but since then it is hanging in there and doesn't have that issue. Somebody else on here had to return one....

Good luck

Not necessarily if the previous owner put a toggle switch on it. Might just be some random red wire they had lying around and it's connected to a constant power source or a switched it's not supposed to be.
