Default rear main leaking

2010 I-5, 110k miles
Since I bought it 8 years ago, it has had a very slow engine oil leak in the trans bell housing, just seeping into the rubber inspection plug. I'd clean it once a year and snug to the two oil pan bolts I could get to thru the hole. Well, this year it decided to leak enough to go thru the plug and actually accumulate on the engine pan.

So much of the surface is wet that I can't pin-point where the leak is, but it would have to be either the oil pan or the rear main seal, right? Is replacing the rear main a major job? Can you replace just the seal or do you have to remove the rear engine cover also?

Make sure to "pin-point the leak". The rear main seal is easy to replace, "major job" to get to it.

you will have to separate the motor and transmission for either one. seal or plate.
