Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
ABS/TRACTION light came on, I traced it to the drivers side rear abs sensor.
Removed the bolt that holds the sensor into the rear axle and while removing the sensor, it broke,
flush with the axle housing. I had to chip away at it, scrape off a rust ridge that was preventing it from sliding out.
Then inserted a screw into it and popped it out.
Total time:1.5hr, total cost: $53.99 with tax and next day shipping.
Abs & Traction control operating again. '07 with 90,198 miles.
Mine spun freely too.. Just no way to get it out without breaking it. 5 minute repair took me 1.5hr, due to the amount time cleaning the rust ridge off the rear diff mount hole, so I could get it to slide out. Patience and don't let any debris drop into the rear diff, scrape, pick, sand paper, wire brush, etc, clean debris with a shop vac, before you pull the sensor, so no debris drops into the diff. GL
So you did not break it ? After cleaning the rust on the differential it came out? I dont see how cleaning the rust of the outside differential will let this guy slide out? I must be confused or not know what I am doing or are you just saying to clean well before I try to get it out? I thought yours broke and you had to chisel it out in pieces?
Just in case mine breaks, what did you use to chip away at this thing? I want to make sure I have all the tools before I attempt it again.
Yes, mine broke,(look at pic above) I was rotating it back and forth while prying on the mount bolt tab. Would not pull out.. After it breaks, you will see the rust ridge on the rear diff sensor hole. Scrape it with a screwdriver, chisel, pick,. Roll up some sand paper and hone it out. After you remove the rust ridge, insert a screw into the sensor and pull it out. I used a fine thread drywall screw, and pulled with pliers.
Got it thanks, what did you buy as a replacement? I see a $12 sensor on rockauto but at that price I am not sure how good of a quality sensor it maybe? Judging by the price you paid with over night shipping it might be the same one?

Not the same, I purchased a delphi from RA 2yrs ago and I received it the next day(I DIDN'T PAY FOR OVERNIGHT SHIPPING). Keep in mind RA uses distributors all across the country. Buy the cheap 1, if it works, your good, if not it will be easy to remove now, and return.
Thanks for the advice. I ended up getting the BWD sensor from Advanced Auto for $70. The cheap one is probably crap and found articles stating they very commonly fail so did not want to take a chance. Found some people also saying Delphi is made in China and failed them after a few months to a year so it scared me a bit. I purchased BWD Coils and sensors in the past and they are working perfectly in my truck. All those BWD parts were made in Poland so at least I know the quality is top notch vs the China parts. I am not so much worried that they fail but just don't want to have to do this again in as long a time as possible.
