You have been made aware of the forum rule. Your choice to follow it, or not, but failure to follow rules will have consequences.

I realize your far superior understanding of how this forum works with your 28 posts and all, but if you want to get to #30 you might want to follow the rules.

Gosh doc, zing zing. Hang on, let me check for bleeding. Nope...I'm good.

Rules are good to have, important even, but should be re-evaluated for validity and applicability every now and then. Heck, the entire American legal system is based on that concept. A myopic adherence to a "rules is rules" attitude doesn't benefit anyone.

If the forum was discussing who has the best sushi rolls in Michigan, say, then old threads would indeed have less value than new ones. That information would become obsolete as old restaurants closed and new ones opened. That's not the kind of information that's being exchanged here though.

In fact, there are fewer and fewer Hummers on the road each year. Some get wrecked, others mothballed, some disappear into the far corners of the world. Instead of having a forum being visited by original Hummer owners who are familiar with the ins and outs of the vehicles, the forum demographics will gradually change to be 2nd, 3rd and 4th owners. Those folks will be in search of that information the original owners had, information that's contained in {GASP!} OLD threads. And that's going to become more and more true as our dear ol' vehicles continue to become older and older.

While the rule was surely well-intentioned, rather than adding to the value of the discourse in the forums, it's actually degrading it.

Guess you missed the part where Doc said: "Post a NEW question and link to the old dog if you think it is somehow relevant or even needed."

Didn't miss it at all. What's the point in all of that extra linking and clicking? If the original thread is relevant enough to be linked, why shouldn't someone be able to just reply to that thread? It makes it easier to digest the information and keeps the issue all contained in one thread. Why have TWO threads about the exact same topic when one would do? The KISS principle in action.

The point is, you've created an unnecessary thread. If you read all of the older thread(s), you can figure out what the problem is, and how to correct it.

I'll be damned, he made it to 30 posts.

The point is to post a new thread to talk with new current members on the board. BTW, when you go to any forum and dig up old threads it shows you do not understand how a forum works and people will point at you and laugh for being clueless regarding your lack of forum etiquette.

Why have two threads? Why not have 600 threads? Get it...... we want NEW threads, bunches of them, all by current live members. We do NOT want dead threads necro-bumped.
