Oil Leak, Tranny Slipping
I have had my 07 H3 for just over a year now with no major problems. She has just over 100k miles and ran very solid. I drove 2 hours from home, lots of hills and small towns for about half of the distance, and flat roads and cruise control the rest so speed averaged 30-70mph. She ran fine the whole way until I hit the 1st red light after the 2 hours of constant driving…. I hit the gas pedal and the rpm’s shot up but she barely moved! I limped her another 300-500ft to a parking spot, the whole time slipping more, and got out to check her over. Oil had blown everywhere underneath and up into the engine compartment some. It took 10 hours to have it towed home yesterday so I haven’t ripped into her yet today… so, I’m assuming hopefully just an easy to reach oil line, but if so why was my tranny slipping so bad and then not engaging at all?!
Welcome to HF. I MOVED this thread because, as it says in a Sticky at the top of the New Member Section, that is NOT for Tech Questions, supposed to be for New Member intros and hellos.
Anyways, your Trans is slipping because it got too hot, blew dirty Trans Fluid out the vent, and is toast. What you assumed was oil, is likely dirty burnt Trans Fluid. To confirm.... when was the last time the Trans Fluid and Filter were changed?
Good luck, time for a rebuild.

Thanks! So, I checked a few things; there was/is NO engine light, NO codes, Tran fluid looks good and still at perfect cold reading on stick and NO leaking while off and parked. The oil level did drop by 2-3qts and the fluid that sprayed everywhere underneath looks and smells like oil. Could an oil line have gone and perhaps the leaking oil got into tranny vent hole which made it slip? I’m more familiar with older cars; I have a 41 Buick and a 53 Chevy.. this is the newest vehicle I have owned and I’m still learning the mechanics of all this more modern stuff. Is there some sort of oil cooling for the tranny?
There likely will be zero codes when a Trans cooks. Check your coolant level and quality to see if it is contaminated.
Again, when was the last time you changed the Trans fluid and filter? Add to that, when was the last time you changed the Transfer Case Fluid?
Plan on getting down and dirty. Clean the engine with a good engine cleaning degreaser foam or spray, then hose or power wash it off from underneath, might take more than application. Once all the oil residue is gone. Fill the engine to proper oil level. Start it and get under to look where the leak is coming from.
Inspect the engine oil lines to the filter, the filter where connected to the remote mount, oil filler tube etc... Inspect the Trans cooler lines from Trans to Radiator. After you thoroughly cleaned it, you should be able to spot the leak at its source.
