New Hummer H3 new to fourm
Hey all, I have recently purchased a 2009 Hummer H3 with 131k miles. The truck is mechanically sound and has had a few new parts installed, I need help with a few things though..
First is the rust, the Hummer was a single owner vehicle in New York until now where it sits in my driveway in the Midwest. I like my things clean, but I have never dealt with rust before, only on some old exhaust manifolds. What can I use to clean the rust off? It is deeper than surface rust but not rotten, the further you go toward the rear wheels, the worse it is, the rear bumper is almost rotted out... What supplements and tools should I use? I was thinking Rustoleum rust dissolver gel and a bunch of bedliner.
Second is the sunroof, the sunroof appears to have been sealed at one point, but forced open later on, and the seal is broken, what is a good brand I should use to re seal the sunroof to prevent the common leakage?
Third is the blower motor blowing air through my HVAC in the interior has a noticable sound, it sounds like an older computer fan that is ready to go, and the airflow is not as strong as I thought it would be, but it is hot and cold, is this normal? Or is there an air filter or something that could be clogged? Could the previous owner tried to fix this by changing the AC compressor and recharge the AC?
Fourth is paint. The truck is rough around the edges, rust under the door handles beginning to seep out, which is annoying and I want to fix, any tips appreciated. And the paint is starting to fade mostly on the fender flares and hood.. Should I use detailing compound and polish to restore it, or would there be a better way?
If you have questions about the truck I am open to answer, any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Welcome to HF. I moved your Thread from the New Member section to the H3 section as it was more tech questions than purely an intro.
Chassis rust: some wire wheels on a grinder first to remove all flakes and loose particles. Rust dissolvers do not work that well, but you can follow with some after. Then coats of rust encapsulator.
Sunroofs do not “seal” to the body. First make sure the sunroof drain fix was done. The you may have to remove the headliner to inspect, remove the sunroof and frame to clean and re-grease the tracks so it can move freely.
Confirm the HVAC recall was performed.
Take it to a body shop.
Good luck.

Rust was a few day job, get under and grind the big stuff off then use your favorite undercoating or treatment to protect.
Sunroof was completely sealed off, I know some might like it, but I just turned it into a moon roof with some black silicone, beforehand I did drop the headliner and attach the drain lines, they were detached for some reason.
For my blower motor I just bought a new one and installed it, nice and silent, with a lot of airflow, the old one was more than likely the original.
For paint, It's not done yet, I am thinking of vinyl wrapping it (Any tips or advice please reach out) I am thinking of doing satin black 3M wrap.
My most recent fix was my driver door key lock. Just changed that as of TODAY in a few hours. Not the easiest, but it does ensure another way to access the interior.
