As part of GM’s ongoing restructuring, the company is engaged in an effort to sell off unprofitable brands and refocus its resources on more promising business lines. In June 2009, GM announced that it was in advanced discussions with Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co., a Chinese company, to sell the rights to the HUMMER brand. According to GM, HUMMER would maintain its headquarters and operations in the United States, and the vehicles would continue to be manufactured in U.S. plants. The agreement to sell HUMMER has not been finalized, and any sale would require regulatory approval.

I am tired of the red tape all around politics and how Americas wants and needs are rarely listened to.

 

I'm not sure what you expect a senator to do that would keep GM from closing Hummer. Until they became Government Motors, they were a private company that can do anything they want. If they don't think they can make money on Hummer then they can do what they want without government interference.

One could argue that GM is stupid, but that's a different discussion.

This is similar to when cities get all excited with a private hospital that closes. The local officials talk about saving the hospital, but in reality they don't have a chance.

Now if we could all become socialist, then our problems would be solved (of course, we will all be poor).

 

I wasn't looking for him to do much it was more of he is supposed to represent people of my state. I wanted him to show a bit more concern but he left it as if other states complain I'll jump on band wagon. Also whether a company is private or not doesn't mean anything. On paper they have the right to do as they please but government officials have huge influence. I just really wonder even if there turns out to be huge support will these senators say anything?

 

I want the rat bazzturds that gave GM 60 billion dollars of our money to force them to pay back every penny as fast as they can. If someone will give GM a dollar for Hummer I want that dollar back now. GM should not have the option of shutting Hummer down if anyone is willing to give them anything for it, at least until they have paid us back the remaining 52 billion they haven't paid back. Our Senators and Congressmen owe us that much.

 

Yeah what he said!! It sucks being an unwilling shareholder in a company that you have no chance of ever getting a dividend check from.

And in regards to the socialist country statement, just stick around and watch. If the superstar that's in the whitehouse and his administration have their way, we'll be there before they're done. A very sad day in US history in my opinion.

 

Didn't GM pay back the money already? I thought I got an email saying they had done that a couple of days ago.

It still doesn't change the fact that they should have sold Hummer to a willing buyer.

 

They used bailout funds (TARP) from the feds to pay off their loans. They are still operating at a loss. It's a political game.

 

GM has not paid off anything! A freaking ruse. But that should not stop Chairman Obama to sell the company and get it out from under his control. Insane. All it would require is a public offering and GM would go private once again.

But we have to ensure that we lose Hummer, Saturn, Pontiac so we can save the blood sucking, corrupt unions who own 60% of GM.

Wish Ford would buy Hummer and this way we can all be done with Government Motors and a Chairman Obama.

Sorry for the rant, but sick of being lied to by this administration like we all have IQ's hovering around 2...

Oh here we go again - its all Obama's fault that people didn't buy enough Hummers!

Seems the same people who warn of the creeping tide of communism are the same people urging the government to do something - the same people who spurred Bush into pumping billions into them? Seems they can't make up their mind whether they love government intervention or despise it?

Out here in Arabia Hummers are very popular (all the sand and cheap gas) - I'm surprised none of the state Companies here have stepped in to purchase it - instead they seem to be wasting their money on British football teams. Having said that last time Dubai bought a company with US assets (the Ports) it caused an outcry, I guess this time they'll limit there spending to where it is welcomed.
