OK I think we have the engine codes fixed! 4 days of driving + a clean scan so hopefully they are gone

Now for the next challenge. I unplugged the TCCM fuse and cleared it's memory on Saturday. We put about 100 miles of in town driving and all seemed good until this morning. I got on the interstate and the error messages came back.

I think I need to investigate the wiring at the encoder motor. The errors seem to appear after interstate driving. When we purchased it there were no error messages and I drove it 20 miles and did not get any errors. We changed the transfer case fluid and unplugged the encoder motor and then started getting these messages.

Is there a simple way to check the function of the plug down there?

We seem to have all 4x4 functions so I think the encoder motor is working.

 

Is this one of the early H3s that requires additional fluid to be added through the T Case Speed Sensor hole? Did you remove and reinstall the speed sensor? If so, review that step, if you get the O ring on the speed sensor twisted it will not seat all the way leading to errors.

Clean the contacts to the T Case encoder motor with electrical contact cleaner and visually inspect its harness.

 

I had an epiphany in the middle of the night, I think we overfilled the T case and flooded the encoder sensor with fluid.

I am going to pull it this afternoon and see if it can be salvaged.
