Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
I seem to be missing one bolt and nut on my rear skid plate on my H3. Only problem is I do not see any threading on the frame bar connected to the truck.
That arrangement is for the early H3's, I suppose. My 2010 doesn't have U-nuts, the nut flange on the passenger side, or the "H3" in the front shield .
The OP didn't state year model... Even if he didn't originally have a U-nut, maybe he could still wedge one in there.

Tom, I have a box of M8 U-nuts, if want a few.
33° & raining, this is all I will offer (only removed bolt on drivers side). You can check yourself when you remove the oil pan skid plate. Now have to go and dry myself.
Interesting. My 2009 does not use U nuts on the differential support cross member, but has nuts welded inside the support. At some point before I bought it, some ham-fisted "mechanic" had cross threaded the bolt into the nut, and snapped the nut welds inside the cross member. I had to cut the bolt head off and push what was left up into the cross member to fix it - there was definitely no U nut on mine!
I used Tainter's recommend fix - drill through to the top of the crossmember and drop a long grade 8 bolt down from the top with washer and self-locking nut at the bottom.
