Default Looking into a 2006 H3

Looking into buying my wife’s aunts 2006 H3 Adventure with the I5 Vortec as a new/used family/weekend warrior.

It’s been well taken care of and the family member doesn’t want to sell but is because of financial reasons.
has a stack of maintenance records and papers on a new motor and tranny.

Totally new to the Hummer world but I do have a general understanding that the 06 is the worst year.

Curious on what mods/upgrades we could do to it on a budget to get the best performance and longevity out of it. And also if I should just stay away from it all together.

Any and all advice and comments helps.

Thanks!

Welcome to HF. There is nothing wrong with an 06. By now if it had the bad valve seats, it would have had the head replaced. When changing T Case fluid you have to add an additional amount through the speed sensor hole since the fill hole was too low. Otherwise, drive on.

Was the 3.5L replaced with another 3.5L or was it a 3.7L. We have seen several people come here and post about their new to them 06 H3 only to find out it has a 3.7L replacement, and some even have an 07-09 with a 3.5L replacement.

Performance mods: Intake, port polished Throttle Body, Efan conversion, cat back exhaust and a PCM Tune. My old 07 had all that along with the off road goodies, UCP, Rock Rails, Winch Bumper, U Bolt Skidz, etc. That was agreat truck the entire time I owned it.

If the price is right why not. If it suits your needs. Spend some time here looking into MPG and other service items.

If you have all records and a family to go to for details why not? Replace motor and trans wow.

The Adventure package is premium so that is also a plus.

Do some research and make a decision.

How old is that house? Open soffits up front along with A-frame supports on the side soffits.

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely leaning towards going for it. Super clean rig. Has a few ticks like any 20 year old vehicle would and should. Exhaust leak, little bit of oil coming from the t-case. The rear leaf springs were replaced with something that looks like it belongs on a little Toyota, but all of these things are the least of my worries. I was honestly surprised when we drove it, I was expecting more power from the iconic Hummer. But these are all things I can work around.

Been doing a fair amount of research on motor swaps/crazy ideas, and so far I’ve only found the extremes on both ends of the spectrum. Either people are doing the 5.7 swap or going all out with a diesel swap. Both are in my wheelhouse. I’m a diesel mechanic by trade. But that would have to be down the line.

If we do pull the trigger I’ll be making journal entries on what I find. Glad to find a group dedicated to these rigs.

Thanks again.

I agree on all of these points. Excited about what it could be turned into.
