Default ..:: The ***** & buttons lighting situation ::..

Hi All,

I notice on my 2007 H3 Base that there are some buttons and ***** that should be lit when dark but are not, so not sure if it is a burnt-out bulb or a BASE model thing that some buttons and ***** do not light up, or some other issue in play.

The hazard light button between the two ac vents doesn't light up, so at night I need to feel around the ac vents to find it and activate it, but not sure if it actually lights up on any H3.

As per the 4x4 Control, the second "4" does not light up randomly -sometimes is lit, sometimes is not; what may be causing this?

As per the Radio: "SEEK" button, as well as "1", "2" and "BAND", "DISC" and "INFO" buttons below do not light up, or very dim; all others to the right of these do light up.

As per AC control, I'm only able to see the rectangular orange light in the center of the first 2 ***** -none of the surrounding icons/numbers on these two ***** get lit, neither does the third ****; so at night, I can only see the two rectangular orange lights of the first two ***** -everything else is not lit -is this how they are supposed to work?

I've found a video and other old posts regarding the AC control lights, but all I see that gets replaced is a bulb that apparently lights up the orange rectangle to indicate is ON, but they do not clarify if you should only see this orange light, or if everything else should be lit too. I would assume the AC ***** should light up completely showing the icons, just as the rear wiper **** underneath it does, but who knows.

See pics below to show what I see.

I will wait for your feedback, thanks!

Thanks SKI.DIVE. Another thing that puzzles me regarding the AC *****, is that all videos I see only one lightbulb per **** gets replaced, so I'm guessing that lightbulb is what lights up the icons and numbers, and the orange ON light is just a different bulb? I did Google like you suggested and found a couple of how-to videos that will definitely help. Thanks again.

I have done the HVAC **** replacement twice now on two different Hummers. Fairly easy. First, I do not recommend replacing with the stock bulb - use LED. In my little experience, the replacement bulbs were too hot and deformed the plastic, causing them to lose connection withing a week or two of replacing. I used a "Neo Wedge" T4.2 LED from Amazon, and they have worked great. A few things though - they will not be the stock color - they will be whiter. I used a white color LED for the HVAC *****, and I used an "Ice Blue" color for the rear wiper ****. LED's are polarity sensitive, so be prepared to install, test, and note which ones are in backwards. Just note which ones do not light up, remove everything again, and the turn the bulb 180 degrees in the socket.

As for installing, you'll need to remove your front dash plate, remove the **** control box from the dash plate (10mm screws), use a small screwdriver to remove the back of the control box (white part), and then remove the circuit board from the control box. It isn't hard, but can be a little tedious, as there are many small snaps holding it together that really like to re-snap together as you are trying to get others loose. You'll see what I mean when you get to that point. The ***** ARE timed to the pots on the control board, and there are small gears that can fall out if you turn it upside down without being careful. If you do get them untimed, just look close at how they go together, and you'll be able to get them back together where they belong. The gears have missing teeth that match to missing teeth on the mating gear.

Wiper **** is similar, but on this one really make sure you pay attention as you pull it apart, as it is a little more difficult to see how it goes back together if you didn't pay attention taking it apart (as me how I know ). This one is also held into the front plate with 10mm screws.

As for the transfer case buttons - these are really tiny blue bulbs that I have not found a replacement for. There is no socket, and they are soldered to the wires in place, with no provision to replace without soldering (think old-time Christmas tree light bulbs, but much smaller). The "good" news is that you already have a spare bulb behind your panel; just to the left of the traction control button (far right) is a bulb in place that would have been for the rear locker button, which you don't have. So, it is possible to unsolder that bulb and put it in place of your burnt-out bulb. That is what I did in my Hummer. I remember it was not as easy or fun, but I WAS able to get it to work, and it looks great.

I'll post a screenshot of the LED bulbs I used, though there are many to choose from. Good luck!

Thanks BROTHAPIG, I already received the replacement bulbs, just haven't got to it yet. I initially gave a soft pull to the dash panel and felt quite a resistance, so paused and will try later when I get a proper tool to help me pry it out -wouldn't want to break it trying to replace the bulbs. Hopefully the hazard warning bulb is similar to the AC's so I can replace it as well while at it. I'll keep ya'll posted after it's done. Thanks again.

You shouldn't need a tool. I use the two power ports at the bottom as leverage with my fingers. Get it started from the bottom, and then work my way up the sides, trying to pull as straight outward as I can. Then I can grab the sides near the radio for a straight out pull.

Hello All!

Happy to report that bulbs on AC Control have been replaced and lights are back on!

During the swap, the Rear Wiper Control bulb went out, so I replaced it with the same bulb used on AC Control -not with the blue bulb it originally had. I haven't put it back in so unsure if it will light up as before, so will update later.

As per Hazard Switch light, unfortunately the bulb cannot be replaced and switch is no longer available -the workaround is to buy a similar one that I will be able to swap the buttons and be able to have it lit up again. Once it arrive and I do the swap, I'll update you all.

Still to access are the bulbs in the window switch on doors, half of front driver panel not working, as well as rear passenger's. Once I get to them I'll report back.
