Default Just got me one of these little monsters

Just bought an '09 Base, black and basic as can be. The Amish Hummer if there was such a thing. For the price, I couldn't beat it considering it came with brand new Falken Wildpeak A/Ts (all five!) and was under 90K miles with virtually no rust. This is a compromise since finding a replacement for my shorty Z71 on an emergency budget is impossible, but at least I can take the kids off-road for funzies and maybe even go camping with one vehicle. We will see about that.

Only mods I plan on are jacking the torsion keys and MAYBE getting 285s later on. Maybe. But I do need a roof rack and hitch, so I'll be looking for your suggestions. Also, curious if anyone here has installed one of those super shallow Alpine/Android Auto receivers yet (iLX-W650 I think) and was curious how that install went. We will see what Mrs. Claus brings me.

Finally, I have reservations about this Atlas 5. I've seen original 4.2s self-destruct back when they first came out, three or four were in my uncle's shop way back when all with crashed valves and cracked heads. I hope that by '09 these things have gotten better. The shakey idle doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me but I never liked oddballs or inlines to begin with. This is both. So I'll treat her like a nice daily driver and won't romp on her too bad... but I'm not gonna brag about this baby beast. She plows through the snowbanks with the greatest of ease, so I'd like to keep her like that until they build some electric ones.😁

Later,

Matt

Welcome to HF.
Change EVERY (Tcase, Diffs, Brake, Coolant, Steering, Trans, Engine) fluid so you can start from scratch on your maintenance schedule.
Clean the Throttle Body and MAF with specific cleaners, tighten the intake manifold bolts for your rough idle.
Close enough to 100K to check plugs too.

Dexos was long after Hummer H3s were last built, not an issue. I use Mobil 1 in mine.

Consider using the base rails rather then roof racks on your rig. Adding a few extra clips to the existing rails gives you lots of options to tie things down and offer little wind drag/resistance to help mpg.

Stock H3 came with 4 rail clips. Adding 2 or 4 more you may find the roof will support most anything you put up there.
