Hello, I have a 2006 Hummer H3. I am the only owner. I have an interesting issue with my factory radio. - Sometimes, when the weather is cold (into the 30s), no sound comes out of the radio. - The radio turns on and I can change the stations, everything looks like its fine, but no sound. Then after a while... about 10 minutes or so, bam... the radio sound comes on suddenly and continues to play without any issues. This happens only on startup and like I said, I've noticed it mostly on colder days.

Has anyone experienced a problem similar to this and if so, what was your solution?

Welcome to HF.

Your factory speakers are about to take a dump. Turn on the radio and confirm if you all speakers are in fact working when the sound comes on.

 

When the problem occurs, NONE of the speakers make any sound. As soon as the radio "click on" by itself, that's when I hear the speakers. So, I doubt its the speakers.

Recommend that each speaker be thoroughly tested. Also check to make certain that the fuse is not corroded or possible open/short. Could be the contacts under the fuse are contaminated or damaged. Also your wires may be touching under the dash.

 

Hi Happy Hummer, thanks for the suggestions. OK, so lets think this through... if the fuse (for the radio) was bad or intermittent, I wouldn't get power to the radio - correct? However, I can change stations and they all come in, I just can't hear them.

What it seems to me is there is something between the tuner and the speakers (some sort of electronics) that is shorting out. I just don't know what that may be.

sounds more like a stuck or frozen relay somewhere that would power the amp or amp remote where it would be located or if it has one i dont know. you would need a schematic.

 

Crappy-Azzed battery terminals strikes again.

 

There is a cold solder point in the radio that only works after the board heats up.
Buy an aftermarket radio and plug/play harness will all the buzzers and whistles you want (Bluetooth, Navigation, Android Car-play, etc) and enjoy a radio that isn't from early 2000.

 

Great, but I doubt you bothered to check if ALL your speakers work. So at best you think they work when you hear sound.

HI HummerZ, no... its not the battery terminals. I just chawed out the battery and the terminals were cleaned and its still going the problem.
