Unhappy HOT start Problem

I see a lot of cold start issues/passlock problems. I am trying to figure out mine. 2006 H3. Starts cold no problem. Warms to operating temp and shut off...re-starts no problem. Shut off and wait 5-7 mins..won't start. Cranks sounds like it wants to start but won't. At times when key is released continues to crank for a few seconds and sometimes more than once on its own. (grinds starter at times....aarrggghhh) Wait 20-30 mins...starts back up no problem.. WTH is this?????

Have you changed the battery terminals?

Default Battery terminals

The battery is brand new. The cables are clean with no corrosion. Starter engages 100% of the time.

The OEM Battery Terminal Connectors are junk, they are the #1 cause of H3 electrical Gremlins. Pretty hard to trouble shoot beyond those POS crappy azzed terminals with them still in the equation. Replace those with a quality aftermarket set.

The PCM is sensitive to minute fluctuations in voltage cause by a poor connection to the battery. Yeah, your lights can turn on, the vehicle may crank..... but the PCM is misreading what is happening.

I'm gonna guess heat soak, kinda like on the Jeep Cherokee xj. That the engine is flash heating the starter or fuel delivery and causing vapor lock. Conversely this could be good old ignition / pass lock trouble.
Let us know what you find.

Thumbs up Thanks

I'll let y'all know what happened so if it is not the fuel pump, you don't waste $600. THanks for the clues!

Ok folks. After a new $500 fuel pump, she purrs like a kitten starts every time so far. Pressures before fuel pump varied but were from 38lbs to 45. Now a steady 58. Solved the rough idle issue too. Yay!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all the help. Hope this helps someone else.
