My '08 Alpha check engine light came on, (first time in the 14 years I've owned it with 55,000 mi.). The (2) codes were P0172 (System Too Rich Bank 1), and P0175 (System Too Rich Bank 2). Seems strange that both banks would throw the same code so I'm thinking a possible fuel issue. I haven't driven it much the last few months so the gas in it is that old. I use nothing but Top Tier Mobil gas. I just added a bottle of Techron Concentrate, filled the tank with fresh gas and cleared the codes with my scanner. Upon restarting the check engine light stayed off (although I haven't driven anywhere yet so it could come back on). Your thoughts? Thanks!

 

Fill it with fresh Marathon fuel as needed and drive it 500 miles...........report back. That ought to do it.

 

 

Cleaned the TB & MAF 20K ago. Shouldn't be due this soon but I guess I could give it a try.

 

Great place to start. What air filter are you using? Maf cleaning maintenance should be done more frequently with an aftermarket af installed. Can you check fuel trims? If so check fuel trims with maf disconnected. Also make sure to clear codes history.

Update: I cleared the codes and they have not returned....haven't done anything else but add some Techron Concentrate and new gas. I don't think THAT was the solution, as I haven't put that many miles on it since the codes first popped. Must have just been a glitch.

 

Halo, mine did it once. Exact same codes.
Cleaned the MAF, Tbody and made sure no air leaks from the air box to the TB. The small breather hose for the intake had a small hairline crack. Swapped it out and...
Never came back again

 

Thanks Taint, if it comes back I'll do a hose check but at this point I think it was just a hiccup.

Thanks Hummerz, but you're preaching to the choir. Re-read my post #4. Since the problem has obviously resolved itself I still believe in the old "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It"
