Default H3 Alpha with P0442 and stab sys traction failed

My 2008 H3 Alpha with 98K miles has the check engine light and when i checked the code all i see is P0442 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak) Also every once in a while i will see SYS STAB TRACTION FAILED. Truck runs fine. Any advice on how i can try to find the leak without a smoke machine? I was reading that it may be the cannister valve behind the front Tire but i dont want to replace it if its not the issue. Also what is the most common reason for the SYS STAB TRACTION FAILED error?

thanks in advance

OBD II Fault Code

  • OBD II P0422
Fault Code Definition
Code P0422 indicates that the Bank 1 Main Catalytic Converter's emissions efficiency has fallen below the minimum allowable limit. This threshold is tracked by a Catalyst Monitoring Oxygen Sensor located on or near the outlet of the Catalytic Converter.

P0422 Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • In many cases, no abnormal symptoms may be noticed

Common Problems That Trigger the P0422 Code

  • Defective Catalytic Converter
  • Engine misfires have damaged the Catalytic Converter
  • Internal engine damage resulting in high oil consumption and/or a leaking Head Gasket has damaged the Catalytic Converter

Common Misdiagnoses

  • Oxygen Sensor(s) are replaced when the real problem is a damaged Catalyst
  • Catalyst is replaced when the real problem is internal engine damage, which is producing elevated emissions levels
  • Catalyst is replaced when a misfiring engine is the real problem

I went with that because I've never seen a serv stab sys failure with an evap leak?

Do you have any other codes? Does your scanner have trans capability?
Do you smell fuel walking around the truck after parked?

the Serv Stab error is gone but the p0442 is still showing. My scanner is an Innova 3040c not sure if it has that feature https://csr.innova.com/Content/Manua...wnloadable.pdf

I dont smell any fuel and truck drives fine.

So i cleared all fault codes (P0442) and so far it has not shown up while driving over the weekend. Now the only issue is SYS STAB TRACTION FAILED will show up every once in a while. My scan tool doesnt show any issues related to this error.
