Grille Assembly - Multi-Purpose Bolts - Help a Girl Out!
Before someone comes at me, let me preface this by saying I'm a single female doing my best to learn (Frank the Tank is my H3). I've done my research and have done most of my own maintenance and several successful repairs on my own already. My front grille is missing these multi-purpose bolts that secure it. Its causing a really irritating squeak sound when it vibrates. I know for sure this is the problem, I can see/feel that its loose and if I push it or hold it still the sound stops. Its #4 on the diagram below, GM part 11610299. It's been discontinued and none of the dealerships or parts stores in my area have or can get it or an aftermarket version. I haven't had luck online either. Can anyone help me out and tell me if I'm able to use another kind of bolt from the hardware store or something to secure it and if so, what size it needs to be? It looks like I'll only need two, right?
Likely a braindead prior owner messed the Grill up trying to remove it and the hole the coarse end would have threaded into is trashed. My guess anyway. If you could find one, they would be stupid expensive.
Make a replacement. Remove the grill. Buy a couple pieces of 4MM threaded rod, epoxy one end into the Grill hole where the original parts are missing. After hardening, thread on a nut from the back.
Look at 4:07 in the vid below you will see how they work.
