Default Gabriel Ultra shocks too short?

The Hummer needed new shocks and I have had great luck with these on other vehicles and after cutting off the old one I realized that the Ultra is about an inch shorter than the OEM!

Almost Everything I find says that it should fit but with the front suspension stretched the top stud barely peaks out the hole.

Is the shock supposed to be the limiter on suspension travel?

This is a street driver and will not see significant off road use.

I did see the post about adding a nut to each one.

If the front T Bars have been adjusted then some replacement shocks can be too short. The shock should not be the thing that limits travel, they are made to compress, not be stretched.

I know that you are a fan of the Monroes, how many miles have you racked up on them?

I've been buying and selling Monroe shocks&struts since the '80's. How many miles have I racked up on them? Idk, maybe a million?

I've never had a problem with warranty. Remove them, take them to any Monroe auto parts retailer and get a replacement set. I currently have 37 within 10 miles of me(1 within 1/2 mile).

I'm giving the Monroes a try. There was a set at Advance Auto and they made me a decent deal. Not as good as Rockauto but I can have them installed this evening.

Definitely buy local, when you get a lifetime warranty. You can swap them out for any reason, and not have to pay shipping charges for warranty replacement. Post an update after you install and drive it + make sure they match on all 4 corners (911528 rear).

To add, there is a "sweet spot" (comfort zone) for normal every day driving. Pressures increase both on extension and compression, creating a stiff ride.
