Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
Hola guys trying to locate the Evap canister on a 2007 H3 is it at the back underneath? many thanks John.
Hi guys back again just done a bit more research so my problem is trying to fill the gas tank with fuel it is taking up to 15-20 minutes to fill the tank as the pump keeps shutting down so looking online it appears to have a lot of components so what should I replace the Evap canister or the purge valve? thanks people John.
usual suspect is the canister vent vale at the charcoal canister gets packed with dirt. sometimes you can just clean them up . cycle it with a 9 volt battery and spray some cleaner or wd 40 and also blow out the filter.
if it does not cycle with a 9 volt battery then its bad.
I had the exact issue you are having now. Mine was not the EVAP canister. After I bought and installed a new one that did not change a thing.
Sounds like you have a blocked fuel breather line. See the photo I have attached. There is a line that allows the tank to expel air while filling. The red line kind of follows it. I used week whacker line to remove the blockage in mine.

Not air! FUEL VAPORS. Btw, how did that line get blocked? Need a gas cap?
Evaporative emission control system, the heart of which is a canister of activated charcoal capable of holding up to 35 percent of its own weight in fuel vapor. In operation, fuel-tank vapors flow from the sealed fuel tank to a vapor separator, which returns raw fuel to the tank and channels fuel vapor through a purge valve to the canister. The canister acts as a storehouse; when the engine is running, the vapors are drawn by the resultant vacuum from the canister, through a filter, and into the combustion chamber, where they are burned.
I only needed a 214-2147 that failed 8yrs ago. Never a problem filling since.
I know what an EVAP cannister is and how one works you AZZ HAT!
There IS AIR in the fuel tank and fuel vapors. When filling the tank the fuel displaces the AIR and vapors. The EVAP canister can not handle that kind of volume. EVAP canister collects fuel vapors that are evaporates within the gas tank or fuel system. NOT during Fill-up. That is what the vent tube is for. That's why #10 in your diagram above is connected to #5 AND then the EVAP canister.
I am letting the OP know it may be as simple as unclogging the breather with some weed whip line. I didn't need to spend the $ I did on a new EVAP cannister. Once I found my issue, I put the old cannister back on and sold the "new" one.
Is there a specialty tool required to remove the rear most connection on the evap canister? It's the connection of item #10 on the diagram earlier in this thread. I got the first 2 off just fine and the electrical connection on the opposite end of the canister, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to operate the last one.
I wanted it out tonight, so I ended up "gently modifying" one of my cheap-o fuel link clip removal tools. Essentially, I filed down the inner portion of the plastic tool's height until it just barely squeezed in between the base of the clip and the edge of the canister. This was able to maximize the depth the inner portion of the tool would reach and be able to actually set it over the valve and insert under/into the clip. Hopefully that makes sense!
