driving along and seems like neutral
2008 H3 Alpha with 182,000 miles on it. We have had numerous occasions where we will be driving along and come to a stop sign and the vehicle will be in D and acts like it's in N. Maybe we put it in N and then D and it goes or we have to stop the vehicle and put in P and then D and it goes. It gets kind of interesting for sure. Dangerous in traffic. Well we took it in and many considerations were discussed, but the dealership that we purchased the vehicle new from in late 2007 recommended a reman. transmission. We had it installed in June of this year. It runs a little more sluggishly than it did-surprising. It's not very fast even with the aftermarket air intake device helping. Well recently we had a relapse of the condition for the first time after the "new" transmission was installed. We would appreciate any input anyone has at this time. Thanks.
Might be the transfer case encoder motor. Very similar symptoms that I had on a '08 Tahoe, although mine only occurred while actually driving, not stopped. If it happens again, try shifting the transfer case from 4-HI to 4-Hi Lock and see what happens. Considering you've had issues with the encoder motor (your other post) and replaced it with a used one, that would be my bet. Sometimes used parts don't save you any money.
