Default choosing a cv axle brand

Greetings all,
AC Delco is what is always recommended (from searching old threads) but Rock auto no longer offers them, napa doesnt have them, and only by going to GM directly can I find them. They are over $400 each on their website.
Cardone is the only brand I recognize at rockauto, has anyone had luck with them on the H3 or can anyone recommend one of the others like: Trackmotiv, FVP, APWI or GSP?
Thanks.

Thanks for the OE part number.
I've been searching for the compressed length of the OEM cv but cant seem to find it anywhere. The rock auto part brands listed above are 24.x and 25.x inches. I will probably try one of the longer ones but only after pulling mine out and measuring it. I thought about going with a reman from cardone until it mentioned that you may get a reman aftermarket part (not a reman OEM part).

Measured when/how. The H3/H3T Half Shafts have two Boot covered CV joints that both allow swivel and on one end allows linear extension. To compare apples to ..... you have to compare both fully extended.

Something I posted back in August 2017... obviously prices went up, but makes no difference as the point is still the same.
"I would never use any other half shaft than the ACDelco GM # 15886012 redesigned version from late 2008 that were installed on all 2009 and later H3s, and the end of the 2008 run of H3s. You can buy them shipped to your door for $273.45. They are beefier and a wee bit longer (GM learned something from the launch of the Alpha in 2008 and its steel front diff vs aluminum).

IMHO, when you pay $70 for a $275 part, you 100% get what you paid for, not much. Then again if you like stuff from China and Taiwan installed on your truck, have at it, as Cardone may rebuild stuff, but with what on the inside.

Good luck.

The top one is a 2007, the bottom is a 2009.

The off brands are cheap for a reason, some are just re-manufactured early versions that you don't want, some of the foreign crap are like 1/16" too short as well. You do not want your half shaft popping out of the axle carrier when buzzing down the highway after a bump. Yes, this has happened, people posted it here years ago."

IMHO half shafts are not where to skimp. There are some of us here who have been at the H3 game using them for work and wheeling a long time, been there done that, saw people try that, and have a pretty good idea what works and what is just a band aid waiting for a repeat. There have been people that went through 3 cheap shafts in less than 6 months....... I have better things to do that practice axle replacement work.

Doc Olds- "Measured when/how. The H3/H3T Half Shafts have two Boot covered CV joints that both allow swivel and on one end allows linear extension. To compare apples to ..... you have to compare both fully extended."

The only measurement that is listed in the description of the cv's for sale is the compressed length.

Doc Olds- "There have been people that went through 3 cheap shafts in less than 6 months....... I have better things to do that practice axle replacement work."

I understand, I am gonna roll the dice and save the money. I plan on doing hubs, rotors and pads at the same time so the cost is a big issue. Buying the recommended brands instead of the cheap ones sends the job from 400 to 1200 bucks. Personally, I have had good luck with aftermarket cv's in the past. Wheel hub assemblies were always the parts that have failed right away for me.
Thanks Hummerz for the pic and info.
I will let everyone know if this becomes a horror story.
