Default change radiator hoses?

I have to replace my radiator and want to know if it is recommended to replace the 15 year old OEM hoses while it is out. I don't recall hoses ever being discussed on this forum with radiator replacements. It seems like hoses last a long time these days, so should I worry with it?

Default Do you feel lucky?

I did 13yrs ago when I replaced the original radiator that cracked. I got the hoses cheap along with the radiator, when I replaced the radiator(added a mod to the upper mount bracket), cap, upper/lower hoses, thermostat w/housing, and temp sensor. I still have the original upper/lower hoses+cap+thermostat+sensor just in case?
I'm currently repairing my 1,300sq.ft. driveway & no leaks showing underneath.

Radiator hoses last far longer now than they did back in the day. A visual inspection should reveal if you need to replace either/both.

if they look balloned at the ends where they clamp.... it's probably time.

Don't have any swelling and they feel okay, so I think I'll hold off changing the hoses. That lower one is a booger to get to!
Thanks for the tips!

The new lower hose does not have this collar thingy like the original. Does it come off (so it can be put on the new hose)? What is the purpose of it?

No, it is molded in the hose. Purpose is assembly on the line, easy to grab and keeps clamp from moving away from where it is needed to expedite attachment.

I hear ya, Hummerz, but not this time. Thanks, Doc.

Now I know why the right end gets pushed into the front sheet metal cross-member at the top. The top hose is really too long (horizontally) and it is stiff, especially when pressurized, so it pushes the radiator since it can give at the ends. That top hose needs to be .25-.50" shorter!

probably because it's old and ballooned and it stretched?
