yeah my forum has a global opt out in the user profile. this one i dont see the option but we are running current forum software

 

Here's a thought, I'm on a number of other forums, on those sites the real sharp moderators review and close or lock threads that are very old, no longer active or no longer pertain this way they cannot be added to and emails wont be generated.

You can select your email preference in the control panel to decide whatever you want to receive. I get zero emails unless a thread/post is reported for abuse or spam.

I have better stuff to do than lock down all ancient threads because people cannot follow basic forum protocol and not dig up OLD chit. I'd rather point fingers and laugh like everybody else.
