Default Brand new Kenwood unit, nothing but problems.

Im a new H3 owner. Just purchased a 2009 with moonson and OnStar. First thing I did was to upgrade to kenwood unit. I had a brand new kenwood excelon dnx890hd installed at supposedly the best shop in Broward county FL. What a can of worms! It hasn't worked correctly since day one. Its been a month, I have been back to the shop twice and they cant find the right part to interface with the doors and other warnings that the H3 has. At this point, im sorry I spent the 1,650 bucks. I should have looked for an OE unit with the nav instead. Any advice for me? tnks, Rob.

Hey Rob, the installer should have used a GMOS-04 interface for your head unit. It retains all the on-star and factory chimes and is for Bose/Monsoon equipped GM vehicles. If they did not use the GMOS-04 then they are idiots, if they did use the GMOS-04 and it still does not work, they are idiots and did not wire it correctly. If feel your pain on head units, I have been looking for a good head unit to replace my factory H3 NAV system and have come to the conclusion that all head units suck and have problems. The key is to choose the head unit that sucks in ways that you don't care about or has broken features that you don't use. Good luck man.

hard to imagine that any install shop is not aware of the gmos 04 huh.

I tried one with a radio I ilke for other reasons and it sounded crappy compared to the stock monsoon system.
I use an old Magellan to follow the road. I never give it a destination so it doesn't drive me nuts with stupid directions!

love monsoon sound,stock,as is.

Thanks for the advice chrome, I am going to email this info over to the owner of the shop that did the install. They also pumped up the volume on my OnStar to such a degree that its painfull to use, so im not using it. Fifty percent of the time the Kenwood doesn't turn on when I start the truck, so I have shut off the truck & re-start it, then the unit turns on. Hope this gets resolved since this has pretty much flushed down the toilet the joy of purchasing a new (to me) vehicle.

To install a DVD Player with GPS has become popular now? Can anyone tell me how to get a not so expensive DVD Player for my H3?
