I'd like to replace my original (2008) das radio with an info screen for use with my iPhone and oX offline maps. Any experience/suggestions?

 

I just did this on my 2nd H3. Very easy with the right parts. The H3s require an interface to make this easy. Everything is available through Crutchfield if that's the route you want to go.

I myself went with a Kenwood unit, though the actual choice would come down to personal preference. I would suggest you ensure your unit comes with "wireless" AirPlay, as they all do not. It seems to be a premium feature you must pay a little more for in the form of a slightly better unit. I use AndoidAuto myself, but it looked like both Android and Apple features would mirror each other in the feature list (i.e. if the unit had wireless Android it had wireless Apple).

You'll need to know if your vehicle has the premium sound system (Monsoon) as that will dictate which interface you get. I believe I went with the SOOGM-15 GM interface, as I have the premium sound. I do not use OnStar, so I cannot comment if that will work through a new unit.

If you do not get the interface, I believe you will lose turn signal audio feedback and door chimes, as I believe these go through the radio speakers.
