Default AFE PRO DRY S AIR FILTER does not want to fit

Recently tried to install my new AFE dry S 31-10171 air filter on my '09 H3T. My box does not want to clamp down correctly due to the design of the filter. Has anyone had to modify/cut off excess rubber on the filter or do anything to their air box to make it fit? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys. Hummer>Jeep

if it does not fit and you are sure it is installed correctly do not chance it and go with what is known to fit properly like OE or equivalent. it will just cause damage to something down the future. crack the box or snap the tabs or worst case let dirt into the engine.

They fit. They won't install themselves, you have to place it correctly and make sure, make double sure, the box lid is lined up exactly. It will be snug, but they fit. I have the same filter in my 09 Alpha Off Road, uses the identical box. Probably installed another 10 or so in various 08+ H3/H3ts Chevy Trucks. You might want to make sure the lid edge that contacts the filter seal is clean as dirt and crud resist sliding over/around the edge and make it more difficult to shut the box. The AFE seal is a lot thicker and more robust than the OEMs.

This of course assumed AFE did not change them over the last year or so which I do not believe would happen.

Check and make sure you haven’t pinched the alignment tabs into the mating surfaces. Easy to do, especially if the bozos at a retail auto store have opened your box to do a “dis-courtesy” check of your filter while checking your tires.

Lesson learned: Don’t let the auto store bozos touch your air box!

My problem exactly, does yours close correctly? Problem is, I can't find a new replacement anywhere (discontinued). Guess I have to keep my out out for a used one.

yes, mine still fit fine, but i had to make sure the tabs did not pinch in the seam. If your’s wont close there is something else wrong. Make sure the filter is right side up - in only goes in one way and there is an alignment tab that will interfere if its installed upside down.
