Default 2009 H3 Adventure: Clutch Actuator Cylinder...

Good evening everyone,

2009 H3 Adventure with 133,000 on the odometer, 5 Sp manual transmission, and a puddle of what feels like DOT 3 hydraulic fluid directly below the weep hole in the bell housing. Upon partial disassembly and inspection, the quick connect receptacle on the clutch actuator cylinder (below) feels loose and can be moved around, almost as though it was unthreaded from the housing.

It would appear that this fitting is held in place by a roll pin, but I thought I would check here to see if anyone knows if there is a threaded connection to the housing, or if it is in fact retained by the roll pin.

Thanks @hummerz ... as usual you seem to be able to find just about anything. Disconnecting the line from the master was not the issue however. Here are the issues and some of the diagnostic steps I took to narrow down the problem:
  1. There is hydraulic fluid leaking from the weep hole at the bottom of the bell housing.
  2. The clutch pedal goes to the floor without disengaging the clutch, and it is no longer possible to put the vehicle in any gear.
  3. With the line from the master disconnected from the clutch actuator cylinder, the pedal has zero travel, so the seals in the master are not the culprit.
  4. Bleeding the system at the clutch actuator cylinder restores some clutch function, but within an hour, it is not functional.
  5. When the hydraulic line is removed from the input fitting receptacle on the clutch actuator cylinder, the receptacle itself can be moved around quite a bit with very little effort, almost as though it had unthreaded from the actuator cylinder housing, if that is how it was fastened. Looking at the image of the OEM part (below) there is a roll pin visible (circled) so I am unclear on whether or not the connection between the receptacle and the housing is threaded or something else.

I am just trying to find out if that fitting can be threaded back into the actuator cylinder housing to stop the leak. I hand turned it yesterday for a minute or so without any change in either the rate of the leak, or any sensation that the threads were bottoming out.

Looks like a spring (aka:roll) pin.

Default Post Service Drivetrain Sound...

Good afternoon everyone, GMC was finally able to get the Clutch Actuator Cylinder replaced last week. Clutch is working normally again, however, there is a distinct drivetrain noise, especially when cornering. It is barely audible with the windows up, but when they are down it is a very distinct "gearing" sound. I've recorded a clip which is attached below. It is especially noticable at :11s when downshifting and cornering, and then again at around :20s when slowing & cornering while pulling into the driveway.

I don't recall ever hearing this before the service was done. I realize it is not a lot to go on, but it's all I've got at the moment. As always, I appreciate any help.

Default Bump...

@Doc Olds @TAINTER @hummerz Sorry for the direct ping guys, but as you guys are the most experienced H3 owners here that I know of I'd really like to know if I should be concerned by that sound mine is now making. 2009 H3 Adventure with the 5 speed manual, just had the clutch actuator cylinder replaced and it's making a sound I don't recall ever hearing.

The sound file is attached to the previous post. Again, my apologies for reaching out like this, but I've searched the forum without finding anything similar.

I do not think there is much going on there, but my experience with 5 speed H3s is limited to driving Tainter's old H3T on a night run for a short while. Never had to work on one.

It might help to know what was done more specifically when the CAC was replaced????

For now, here is my stupid question.... Have you confirmed the level of MT Fluid since the repair?

Listened to the audio.
I don't hear anything out of the ordinary but it has been several years since the MT H3T.
I would verify the fluid level in the MT and Tcase. If dirty, stinky, burnt or some shiny parts in there. change them out.

FYI, I have had great luck with REDLINE MT-90 75W90 GL-4 GEAR OIL in the Tcase. Also recommend it in the MT too.

It's the supercharger. Sounds like a bearing to me! If the noise was not there before service, take it back to the shop!
