Default 2006 H3 starts then shuts off

My 2006 H3 (94,000 miles) starts but shuts off, it has a remote start. I can eventually get it to start and stay started. Doesn’t have a problem when it’s warm. My Chevy mechanic friend thinks it’s the H3 ecm. I think there’s a problem with the remote start. Has this happened to anyone else?

Your "Chevy mechanic friend" is looking for another sucker!
Simple math to make a profit: Sell a pcm replacement, $500-$1200, if that doesn't correct the issue, spend time and go back and repair the problem, then reinstall the old pcm, and still charge $500-$1200, quoted for the repair=bait-n-switch.
Check the wiring!

Default Mechanic friend doesn’t even charge me for repairs

Thanks for getting back to me, I’ve been friends with this mechanic for over 30 years. He’s not that kind of guy. I have to make him take money. He’s done many free repairs for me. He is just reading the codes that the ecm is giving him and making a diagnosis. I ordered a new ecm on my own. I have not installed it yet. We tried removing the computer for the remote start and the H3 wouldn’t start at all.

Welcome to HF.

Your new PCM is not going to fix issues with your aftermarket alarm/remote starter.

All H3 question go in the H3 section.

I can't tell if you mean the H3 starts then shuts off with only the remote start, or with the key as well. If only the remote start, mine was set up to use the coil signal to verify it was running (vs voltage). That wire came loose on mine (coil #1), and it would start then immediately stop. This was an intermittent problem for me, which made it a bit harder to track down. Maybe start there.

Thanks for all the advice! It was a bad ecm, I got a refurbished pre programmed plug and play ecm from fs1 for $149.00! It’s been a week with no issues.

Agree with the other advice given here. Best check wiring on the remote. you may have a swinging open in a circuit.

agreed, there could be other issues that caused the ecm to go bad. The remote start is disconnected right now, I had that disconnected before new ecm went in. The company that installed it has agreed to install a new remote start wiring harness and inspect all of their work.
