Default 2006 H3 4wd stuck in 4hi lock

Hey guys I have searched on here and from what I have seen when the 4wd gets stuck in hi or low it will not change, mine is stuck in 4hi lock but can push the button and it will go into 4lo lock, transfer case electric motor seems to be working as it should when removed, could this be the notorious plastic shift fork? Thanks

When you push the button on your dash do you hear an audible click coming from the transfer case?

Only when I push the button from 4hi lock to 4lo lock and vice versa, when I push the button for 4hi (not lock) there is no noise at all and the light comes on without blinking at all

When my truck had a similar problem.

Dirty contacts on the switch was the problem from not much use.

My simple and lucky solution was to operate the buttons frequently and the trouble cleared..

Carbon build up was evidently the problem.

Thanks, I had taken the switch apart when it first happened a couple weeks ago and could not see anything wrong with the contacts, will get some cleaner safe to use and try that

I took the switch apart and sprayed it well with electronic cleaner and reinstalled this morning with no change, still in 4hi lock, tried backing down the driveway and pushing the button from 4hi to 4hi lock several times with no change at all

mine got stuck in 4low and i was racking my brain trying to figure out what was wrong, turns out it was just the 4lo button that was sticking and wouldn't 'pop' back out after pressing it, a little cleaning and all was good.

Yes, you have plastic fork in transfer case, if you are on your stock case. Fork in my 2007 was very much worn out and was impairing switching modes. Changed it last year, functions fine!

Yep my opinion too, change that fork. I'm gonna do it this spring too, mine still works but I don't wanna wait until that happens when need 4Low.

Default Transfer case fork

Alright an update, had a transmission shop replace the fork with a new metal one and anything is they could find with it, turns out the plastic one was wore out and also a bearing, put back in with no change, the mechanic who also does transfer cases suspects an electrical issue so it now is at one of the best guys in the area for auto electric
