Exclamation 06 Cylinder Head - shop can't find any?

Hi -

I've got an 06' H3 that I love dearly, but I need a new cylinder head... turns out the threads are bare and the spark plug has come out. The shop that's working on it is great, but they're telling me they can't find a replacement cylinder head anywhere, and they've talked to GMC & looked all over online. I've only ever purchased accessory-type parts (handles, mirrors, etc) and never engine parts but I'm a little desperate to be able to fix this issue. Can anyone here back up the shop saying the cylinder head is extremely rare and hard to find? And does anyone have suggestions on where I could look to find a replacement? I'd love to avoid replacing the whole engine, it has 115k miles on it. They told me the part # is 19168846. Thank you so much. I love this car but would be devastated if I'm not able to remedy this situation.

Welcome to HF. Threads can be fixed unless your shop is inept.

Ebay, pick-n-pulls, Car-Part.com etc....

Interesting. Thanks for your quick response. They're telling me there's NO threads on the cylinder head and that's why the spark plug came off - therefore, they said to replace the head or replace the engine. Does that sound like something I should get a second opinion on? They told me another shop might be able to "patch" the head but they are not willing to.

It is apparent your "shop" is a parts swapper, not a full service repair facility. They want to mark up parts, then charge labor for a quick easy swap. An actual repair is beyond there comfort zone or ability.

An option is to take your head to a local cylinder head specialist and when they are done have the shop bolt it on.
