Default Who Converted to Springs From Air Ride

Who did you go with as far as a kit ..Springs ...Shocks...Isolators .... Can I use my air ride shocks that are on there? Most of this stuff is made in china.
Got a quote from my GM Dealer guy for $205.00 for one spring and nothing else???

Westar.... Thru RockAuto $381.99 Complete with shocks Springs and isolators ..plus shipping.
Strutmaster..No Isolators..$319.00 with shocks.. Springs free shipping,

Anyone have experience with these Mfg's??

Will they give me my Rake that I like.....??

Advice Please...

Mark, fix the air ride, trust me when I say you will miss the ride quality of the air system and be pissed you switched over to the coils.

Arnott suspension is who I have used for Air Springs and conversion kits.

Have had two H2's, 2003 with air ride and now my 2006 without air. I like the air for it's leveling capability. But I cant tell much difference in the ride. With the unobtainability and expense of a new compressor, would not even hesitate to do a conversion. But if it just needs new air springs, sensor or lines, then a fix is the best bet.

Red face Tough Choice!

Firestone makes an aftermarket compressor that has an adjustable output to give you the capability to be able to adjust ride height and weight carrying capability. If the compressor is the issue consider pulling it out and installing the Firestone unit in its place. Short of some control circuitry you can install by the driver you will maintain your air ride system but get rid of all the complexity of the compressor.

You could also just tee the 2 airbag lines together and run a fill schrader on the back bumper. Both my 05 and 06 SUT had the air system, my 08 unfortunately does not have the factory system and as a result does not ride as good and is less useful as a truck because of the inability to adjust rear ride height.

Bottom line, if you have other vehicles you use and the H2 is nothing more then a weekend toy or hanger queen do as others have suggested and dump the air system. Personally for me if I had the factory system I would do whatever is necessary to keep it working and in place. IMHO

Thanks All for the replies. I am keeping the Air Ride System for now but have ordered the Strutmaster system which is made in Georgia an comes with Brand Name shocks with there logo on them It also comes with install instructions and Factory phone support. I bought it as an emergency back up. I'm pretty sure it's a Valve In the compressor leaking down when it gets cold overnight...like an "O" ring shrinking or something in that vein. Seems to be fine in the hot weather. It's just the change from warm to cold over night. Otherwise, it will be fine for weeks or a month.

Anyone know of a company or someone that repairs these compressors or valves?
Also anyone have schematic of the Air Ride system? When disconnected what has to be terminated so it doesn't throw codes?

Thanks H2-SUT.

I would start here - as mentioned above. They used to sell the complete compressor assemblies, remember years back they advertised them. I have a used spare one I bought probably 10 years ago that's still sitting in a box in my garage, Everytime I have seen a leak - its at the lines where they go into the bag..... hope I have not cursed myself by even responding to this post... lol

Thanks Chrmer,
Went out to your link but it only shows air ride springs conversion. I didn't see the complete compressor assembly. Maybe I missed NAV-ing the site wrong? You can double check me and go look. I too was looking to by a new complete unit but there are none out there. So like you I'll have to hunt for a used one. Unless you want to sell me yours.......I think you wouldn't...L.O.L.

Any way..I went through my 10 story thick paper shop manual on the Air Ride section. Gheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez!! There's a lot of stuff involved for a repair or even removal. Even if you want to do a Spring conversion you need a Tech 2 or similar scanner to inflate or deflate the system. Plus I'd have to figure out how to take the system off line so it doesn't throw codes. I did see two fuses in the wiring diagram. One is a 60 AMP and I think a 30 AMP... Anyway....I'm for sure not going to convert as of now.

I'd like to find a complete working Compressor assembly to keep for a spare.

Edit: Ok I went thru all your links. Andys Auto Parts shows it with a price....$2,007.16...but of course they don't have any. A lot of parts house show items that are discontinued but don't tell you that on the page. Some list them and say discontinued. Any way the other links you linked show the compressor but they are repair manual sites.... like Arnott.

So the Hunt goes on for a used one. Thank You Very Much For Your Time And Research.

I did that link and called them... No Stock... They don't have any.... They just leave it up there I guess to get you to look around on there site. I have been trying for a long time to find one. There is one I posted in the UK for $USD about $4400.00 plus shipping. that was about 3 weeks ago. Just checked eBay UK ..nothing.

Got to be one somewhere. Thanks again for looking. I have a whole bunch of spares I bought over the years ....never thought to look for the Air Compressor Assembly... My Bad.
