I have yet to see mine climb past 180 in 100-105* weather with tranny cooler. And I'm supercharged and I don't take it easy on the h2

These are the temps while towing right? I can get into the supercharger idea, but need to get the car first.

Yeah, towing, spirited driving. Whatever . The big tranny cooler has never let fluid get past 180

So I'm reading more about the difference (longevity) between the 6.0 iron block vs. the 6.2 aluminum block engines. What do guys think about how long these engines can last? I have no worries that my excursion will go 300k+ miles. Do you think it's reasonable to get 150-200k out of the l92? I really like the H2, just want to be sure I'm not getting something that has 60k miles and it's nearing the end of its life.

I have a silver H2.
Whether you like the color or not is a personal preference. I can't stand H2s (or really any vehicle) in white. I passed up on a LOT of H2s because of the color alone. When I bought this H2, I bought it sight unseen. There were no 08 or 09 H2s close to me that I could test, or they had a lot of electrical issues reported on the carfax.

I finally settled on the one I own now. The suspension is shot, but the inside looks almost pristine & the power train is solid as a rock. I've been upgrading the suspension, so it's not too bad, considering mine was about $10k lower than I could find any other that were 2009s. Having captains chairs in the back was a big plus for me & I like having an H2 with a rarer color. As others have said, only some 2009s were painted in silver ice metallic. I think only 75 SUTs were silver. I don't recall how many SUVs were.

As others have said, the 09s only came in 3.73 gears. It has a lot of get up and go on the road for the low gear ratio with 35s on it. It doesn't feel sluggish at all. Now, for offroading, we only have mud here & I haven't had the chance to really push it much. If you're towing, I'd forget about the 4.10 gears and consider 4.56s if you do a lot of city driving.

I have 114k miles on the H2. I've only put just under 8k on it. It came with a little over 106k from the dealer. The engine so far runs really well. A lot better than the 2012 Hemi Ram I traded in towards it w/ only 17k miles. I think that says a little bit about the engine quality. I'll easily get over 200k miles out of it. Not sure about 300k, only because I eventually plan on converting it to a diesel, but that's another story.

If you really fall in love with it & have the funds, considering an upgrade to an lmm duramax is a pretty good idea. You'd get about 450hp/700+tq while retaining AWD. Anything more & you'll only have 2wd & 4wd options. All diesel options lose the TC2 option in the transmission. I'd obviously say to go that route to get your cake & eat it too. You'll just be down $30K, but what's money when you get power! Ha.

Here's a pic of mine.

Maybe I already know the answer but I'm hoping I'm wrong. Are the 2008/09's plagued by the same electrical issues the tahoes/suburbans are?

I am currently at 112k miles. I have had 0 electrical issues. To be honest I haven't had any real issues with anything.

Only "issues" I have were caused by the previous owner wearing everything out.

Powertrain (engine/transmission) has no issues.
Electrical, so far has no issues that I've seen & I've played with almost everything.
The interior has held up MUCH better than my 2003. It looked worn out on the inside when I sold it, poor thing.

I have almost 115k miles at this point.

I have seen electrical issues with 2009s during my search. If you're that worried, read the carfax & see what was replaced. If you're seeing a lot of electrical, steer clear. That's what I did.

I got to drive an '08 today. It was missing a lot of the features we require, like the luxury package w/ dvd player, navigation, camera, 3rd row seats, and tire carrier. It also had the coil springs in the back. At this time we're going to commit to the airbags for the towing we do.

As for the drive, I really liked it and the engine sounded great. Not any faster than my excursion but good enough. It was a bit more floaty than the excursion but coils vs leaf springs is no comparison. But I would be nervous towing w/ a vehicle like that. I'm hoping the airbags under pressure/load will firm up the ride.

So we'll keep looking.
