Usual drive to work in the morning, then went out for another short errand drive and back to work. When i was leaving, I tried hooking into R and nothing. the gear lever is just rolling like butter not hooking into anything out of nowhere. Any suggestions?? .. saw a youtube video of someone taking off the lever and pressing a button that hooks into the gears, i didn't try that yet just thought of sharing this to try more solutions. thanks. here the video.

UPDATE**: had my mechanic stop by and check.. he found some plastic piece/part something related to the gear hooking, not sure what, is broken and needs to be replaced. small part no big deal apparently. stay tuned..

 

is it the transmission shifter cable bushing underneath the truck?

 

yeah it broke off and got loose no idea how or why. having that replaced now

I got one of those eBay replacements and it didn’t last long. It broke within a couple of months. Eventually I just replaced the whole cable with the bushing on the end. Just be mindful that when you shut the truck off, the dash indicator shows park. Otherwise the vehicle could roll away. It’s a miracle that my mom happened to park in the flattest parking lot I’ve ever seen when this happened.
