leaking oil .. ideas?
#11
I have to remove the skid plate to find out for sure from where is the oil coming
In anyway if I have to fix anything around I will replace the gasket as a preventive mantenience
My biggest concern is the main rear seal which I wont be able to do myself due to the transmission removal
Im leaning towards the oil pan gasket but also found some oil marks on the side of the engine which looks to be coming from the top
Weird part . The loosing oil is minimal, sometimes the oil drips on the floor are several but then not leak for 3 days

I just had my mechanic friend replace rear main seal and oil cooler lines along with torque converter while he was at it. Seal and oil lines were leaking. He will clean up under truck to see if oil pan is also leaking. This is on my 2005 H2 with 82k miles

Does he have a lift, or just laid up under the truck to do it? Did he pull the tranny/xfer case as a unit or split them? And what were the damages? Just wondering what I'll be getting into, it's many years since I last dropped a tranny.

That seems reasonable for a rear main seal. I have a leak as well that I think is the oil pan gasket b/c the ls3's are notorious for that. Also, my flywheel looks dry.

My wife's is in the shop as we speak for this. Oil pan gasket but also whatever is above the starter is leaking and running down. All of it gets on the exhaust and burns, which is why I'm getting it fixed. I hate that burning oil smell more than cow farts, so paying the money to get it done. Last year I had a major leak coming from the intake and running down. Got that fixed but they told me about the other 2 leaks.
While the tranny is out they're doing the rear main so hopefully it will be good to go for a bunch of miles.
Oops. After posting realized I posted to page 1. Didn't see page 2. Idiot.

He did the work outside on his driveway. No lift. Loosened the tranny and pushed it back towards back of truck. Not sure about Xfer case. Replacing the oil lines, fixing rear main seal, replacing torque converter, cost me $2100. Dealer wanted about 3k just for rear main seal.
