Default H2 ratcheting sound when I shift it from park to drive and back (doesn’t move)

I had some audio work done to my h2 and when I pulled out of the lot it was working fine. They wanted me to pull it back into the garage for them I asked them to do but they insisted I do it so I did.

it shifted into reverse and drive just fine. When I pulled up to garage maybe a couple feet or so and put it into park it was fine. I noticed that they had left the differential lock in 4low but it wasn’t on as i think something might’ve left it there and it wasn’t engage as the car has to be in neutral to engage 4low so while parked i moved it back into the reg 4 wheel drive.

Then I shifted it into drive after the light confirmed it was in reg 4 wheel drive and it wasn’t moving so I gave her some gas and still nothing the rpm’s went up but she didn’t move ( kinda like if u rev in neutral) tried reverse nothing then I shifted her into park and I hear an Awful ratcheting noise (best way I can describe it is when u shift from drive to park while the car is moving)

So I stopped and gave the car to the owner of the shop infront of me and they couldn’t figure it out. Fast forward to it working again they disconnect the battery and reconnected it immediately and it started moving again? Any idea what could be the cause of the problem?

make sure the cluster shows the same gear you have selected. park reverse neutral drive. if it does not then the shifter cable might be bad. or maybe the transfer case selector actuator needs to be cycled more frequently or is going bad since you mentioned the selector was in 4 low.

yeah the cluster matches the gears just fine. Also the selector was in 4 low as in I think the shop I gave to put it in 4-low my accident but they weren’t in neutral when they did it so it didn’t enter 4low it was still on the reg 4 wheel drive. But she ended up working just fine once I disconnected the battery and reconnected it I was just wondering what could’ve caused it in the first place

They can grind pretty hard shifting in/out of 4lo and sometimes even need to be rolling slightly to get them to shift in/out of 4lo if the drivetrain is bound up at all. I wonder if that was it?
