Default H2 engine swap ir rebuild

Need advise on H2 engine upgrade. I could rebuild the 6.0 but it was under powered all along. I put the stroker in my vette and love it. Should I put one in the H2? Or something bigger?

just remember the H2 needs low torque not high rpms. its a heavy truck. not a light vette. there on the opposite end of each other turtle and rabbit. maybe that is why it feels under powered.

OK thanks. Maybe better off to rebuild the 6.0 then. I have just now dropped the back 2 cylinders compression and quit driving it b4 anything got damaged. I love this truck and since I have to do the engine figured, I would see what I can do to improve things. I saw another post that said it cost more to rebuild it than the replacement crate engine. Any thoughts? Thanks guys.

Genuine GM crate engines are getting more and more expensive plus also in limited supply. I believe GM shut down the engine plant in Mexico which is part of what started the problem. Its all supply and demand.

Now If you have a good 6.0l core, popping it out 30 over (that will get you a 409ci vs the original 366ci) and adding a high torque camshaft will give you impressive results. Want more performance bolt on some LS3 or L92 heads and bingo!

what year is the truck? does it have displacement on demand? if so you might just need lifters,. and a cam if the cam got chewed.

2006. And I do not know much about it yet. Bought it from afriend a few years ago and had to do a trans rebuild and regular maintenance was all. Thanks for your input

bronx, I didn't think the h2 ever had either DOD or AFM but never looked into it, my 08 L92 was cast with everything needed for DOD but GM did go live with it in the h2.
the 08 & 09 did get VVT

for the h2 bigger will always be better (torque) unless you plan on forced induction
I also agree torque down low is what is needed in these trucks or more gear with the ability to spin higher rpm's

For what its worth none of the H2's have Active fuel management (or displacement on demand) even though the hardware to make it work existed on the 08/09 L92's.
In fact GM didn't start using AFM/DOD until the 6.2l L94 was released in other GM vehicles.

What the 08 and 09 do have VVT or variable valve timing which was actually a good thing.

I'm not sure but I do believe GM did implement AFM/DOD on the H3 Alpha 5.3, perhaps one of our resident H3 experts can confirm this.
