Remove the center dash panel to remove the radio and throw it to the curb. Problem solved!

find someone with a dealer level scanner and access to TDS and have them unlock it

To unlock that specific radio you can do a number of things, one, take it to the dealer (as other have mentioned) and they can unlock it with MDI-2/TDS (this specific GM nav radio cannot be unlocked with just a tech 2 by itself).

There are vendors on the internet you can send the radio off to for unlocking work, another option is to purchase an OBDGenie plug that plugs into your obd2 port and unlocks the radio. Your looking at around $150 or less with any of the methods. Or you can replace it. Keep in mind if you do that you will requires interfaces to allow your warning tones, steering wheel controls etc to be used with the new radio.

One final suggestion, if you do the dealership route make absolutely sure you get a written estimate before you let them do it. I know of someone who had the same problem that ended up with a $200 bill because the techs didn't know the correct procedure and screwed around with it trying to figure out exactly the process ending up having to call GM tech line to sort it out, unfortunate they charged him for the learning curve.

If you would rather go aftermarket I have a Kenwood DDX374BT Radio and interface units I removed from my 06 that I would be willing to sell you. Do a search on it for details of what it can do. I removed it in favor of putting back in a factory radio with NAV.

Throw it out and get any radio with carplay. It'll change your life. Stick with Big name brands, pioneer, kenwood, jvc, sony if its in the budget, if not any ol amazon one will do ok. The stock radios are pretty crappy anyway.

Default Replace it but keep the old one!

I am curious about one thing, how did it get locked? When a factory radio is installed and is turned on for the first time it reads the vehicles VIN from the canbus and writes it into the radio's firmware. Once their its locked in place and even if the radio is removed and re-installed into the same vehicle when it get re-powered it then compares the VIN in firmware to that of the vehicles BCM. The only way it can generate a VIN lock error is if it did not come from the vehicle you are installing it in to begin with, the BCM was replaced and not coded with the correct VIN or someone reprogrammed the radio with a different VIN then the vehicle you are installing it in.

As many have said the aftermarket radio's have a great deal more to offer then the factory one, the only drawback is that you must have the addon's (ie: steering wheel interfaces, interfaces to allow the vehicles warnings tones and other stuff to make it work seamlessly)

Personally if you go with a replacement if the GM radio was the actual original that came in the H2 save it, the next buyer of your truck might really want it!
