Question DIC in Black

We bought a 2008 H2 Hummer, and the DIC is black but the sound works. Very fustrated. Also we have a leak up by the compartment on the headliner, how do I pull that piece out to see where the leak is coming from.

God Bless!

As Far as The leak goes...Do a Search here there have been many a post on Leaky HUMMERS.....

Check you're dome light control. The top section when pushed in will turn off the exit and interior lights when you open or close the door. The small **** in the center will push in and out and rotate to vairy the light bright to dim to off. It will also lock on and leave your interior lamps on until you turn it back. Make sure you don't leave it in that position or you'll have a dead battery in the morning.

Yep I got that... I mentioned in the post that if it does pop on again which it might check the nav as you pass a cross street. It should be dead on. The Arrow should be at tip of the cross street when yo get there. If not then your Nav radio needs repair or replacement. I had to replace mine as I said.

Did you try and eject the Nav disc? Of course that is done with the screen ON. If the screen does come back eject the disc and clean it and reinsert. That might cause a reboot.

I bet at some point it will come on again. Try going into reverse then shift to drive. Give it a second to respond and see if that works. A new Nav radio can list out for close to $2K. Plus $150.00 at the dealer for reprograming as the new ones come blank and need a VIN# and a program download from GM to match your H2's dual amps.

I hope it doesn't come to that.

I don’t see why you’re complaining. Theres a lot of people out there that like their DICs Black😏

in all seriousness I think you’re talking about the radio screen? The DIC is the little screen in the gauge cluster that shows the mileage. Usually a black screen is only fixable by replacing the whole thing. You might be able to find an electronics repair specialist that can fix it but the price of fixing vs replacing is not worth it.

Take a look at this thread... https://www.hummerforums.com/forum/h...s-music-47160/ If the navigation unit works, but the display is dark, it may be that that LCD screen is dead, or the ribbon cable to the LCD has pulled out... or the electronics in the nav unit are fried. Once you make sure the dimmer is not set so low that the nav appears to be off... the only remaining options to troubleshoot the nav system will require removing it and physically opening it up an checking the ribbon cable. If you are handy with electronics it is pretty straight forward and I can provide instructions as I replaced the LCD on my nav system once and I took a bunch of photos of the process.

Try disconnecting the battery, let it sit, reconnect and see if the LCD comes back on.

When disassembled, you can see there is a ribbon cable from the main unit to the LCD under and behind the screen... this can get disconnected.

If you are not handy, you can easily buy a replacement and have it programmed to your VIN on eBay and then reinstall.

A couple thoughts on leaks... First and foremost is garage your H2 if you can! :-) There are several paths where water can get into the passenger compartment. Search the threads for the term leak. You can also check Youtube for Hummer H2 leak and you will find a lot of videos. I would say that removing the headliner is the most difficult step so you should do that last. Best way to confirm the source is to have someone with a hose on the outside flood each potential area and then someone on the inside see if they see/feel moisture.

First Check the primary and easier potential sources of water. You can DIY this or have your GM dealer check these and replace gaskets as needed. You can DIY by getting the gaskets on amazon:
* Check the seals on the three roof marker lights along the front of the roof line. Flood with water, and pop them off and see if there is moisture inside. If yes, replace the seals.
* Check the seals on the two big left/right marker lights. Here I see some people silicone the heck out of these, but a gasket replacement should work. Again flood with water, open them up and see if there is moisture leaking to the inside.
* The top of the windshield has a long rubber seal that can get dislodged over time, make sure it is seated properly by pressing it firmly into place along the top of the windshield.

Second, check the XM antenna above the driver side. This is harder since you need to remove it to see if there is moisture and it should be tightly attached with 3m adhesive tape.
* First loosen the headliner on the driver side - there are a couple YouTube videos on what you have to remove to do this
* Flood it and see if it is leaking. To remove and replace the gasket requires some twisting motion... find YouTube video... that antenna is similar on the Tahoe and GMC SUVs.

Third, check the harder to diagnose potential sources of water... to check these you may need to loosen up the headliner and trim.
* Check the seal on the sunroof, and then check the drain lines from the sunroof

Then there are a couple things to check at the rear of the vehicle, but sounds like your issues are in the front
