Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

My 2009 2 stops on a dime with the OEM set up. I replaced the rotors and pads @ about 55K. The OEM GM rotors weigh a ton! Solid ..and they are FNC coated.

Google:
FNC, which stands for Ferritic Nitro-Carburizing. The acronym FMC is an optics term meaning Fully Multi-Coated, and is unrelated to car brakes.
FNC (Ferritic Nitro-Carburizing)
  • Purpose: FNC is a heat-treatment process that diffuses nitrogen and carbon atoms into the steel surface of a rotor. This creates a hardened, corrosion-resistant outer layer that protects the cast iron from rust.
  • Benefits:
    • Prevents corrosion: Reduces unsightly rust buildup on rotors.
    • Extends lifespan: Can double the life of a brake rotor compared to an untreated one.
    • Reduces brake dust: Makes wheels easier to clean.
    • Improves performance: Prevents rust-related brake issues like pulsation.
    • Of course after some stopping the coating wares of on the pad contact surface But the inners of the rotor are protected from "Lot Rot" from sitting or corrosive elements that cause rust and rot.
The 2 has some great stopping power at speed. I'm happy with OEM.

Why do the "we love it stock" drivin mrs daisy, grocery getter people even join enthusiast forums?

You love it stock awesome pep boys has your back take it in there and the 18yo certified parts replacer will keep it stock for you...

🙄

Edit: your entire comment is unwarranted. Obviously we dont agree or this topic wouldn't exist. Are you some kind of passive aggressive contrarian?

My original post on this thread said I couldn't justify spending thousands of dollars on new calipers, but, I think its time. After driving my daughters 2024 Yukon, I want the modern stopping power, also since the Procharger is almost installed (been a long month waiting).

Does anyone have any experiance with Wilwood? I had them on my 72 Pantera, But it came with them so not sure about the before vs after. There's also an American Company called SSBC and when I searched their database the same Brake kit fits all years of H2's including the 09..... A three piston caliper gives us "Modern Braking Capability". Can't find calipers by Brembo for the H2,,,,,,,,

I had Brake fade this summer as I was coming down the back of mountain drive, Nothing serious but I wasn't using just the brakes, low gear and braking coming down, but I think the heavy cast or steel factory calipers couldn't cool down fast enough? Along with dual pistons vs 3 or 4 piston aluminum.......I don't know......

Any advice would be appreciated.

Either thats a six piston caliper or they only wear one side of the rotor...

Oh now I see it, somebody actually built an aftermarket slider caliper for the stock brackets... Thats... Crazy...

"Now you can spend tons of money on aftermarket calipers that still hang up and grind entirely through one side of the rotor prematurely"

Amazing

Genius waste of money

If you want to spend infinite money and then have brake pads you can't replace via autozone on a roadtrip I know a much better caliper/rotor supplier lol?

So we're a cult of stupid people? This could be why some of the technical guys don't post on forums anymore, maybe they're tired of the negative , crappy shrapnel that flies their way.......We all have a different level of experience and opinions/input, no need for bitterness, I'm here for answers and opinions that I can't get somewhere else. You have some great posts/input, but your bedside manner sucks. So yeah, respond with another insult?

Valid, and you arent involved so far to my knowledge...

Im not really trying to beef with H2OVERLAND either

But theres a little gang building who are just tag teaming everything I say to be senselessly contrarian, and while I was looking up where Costigan went to highschool I saw other members having a chat talking **** in the yearbook, so...

Edit: yes that though, I need technical guys where are they hiding... I came back to forums because social media grouos are flooded with little kids, drama, and literally incorrect misinformation about whatever platform, like theyll casually say some **** and change the course of a build by tens of thousands of dollars because they wanna feel cool for three seconds for clout dopamine...

And of course they all, everyone, has the exact same eBay/Amazon shopping cart build with XYZ kryptonite parts (expensive and basically stock) and trashcan wheels with 35 series mud terrains and a stock engine they put a cam in *max* lol

Im real sick of the people on the internet these days. I came from the SVT infosphere where youre literally shooting the **** with actual ford engineers. You say "hey what was the internal motivation for doing xyz seemingly idiotic thing” and you get a reply either explaining or saying "bean counters"

You can easily do the kinda stuff Im trying to like that. I've read stuff online obviously written by these types but it seems to predate social media and forums?

Which is weird. In 1996 ford engineers were on forums hanging out chatting

In 2003 GM engineers were basically hosting angel fire personal web pages still lolololol

THAT is why I think we, as a community, are having issues ..

Boomer engineers couldnt internet in the Aughts 🤣
