I'm almost embarrassed to say that after a custom re-tune to my H2, I now get an average of 16.5 mpg highway and 13 city. I think I've already posted some of the info but the re-tune made all the difference in the world to my truck. It will get up and go now, not that I ever really get in a hurry to go anywhere. My tune was done by a local guy but I'm sure all of the mail order tunes would give similiar if not better results. My tune revolved around timing and shift points.

Hello Tim, could you tell specifically what you did to get that kind of gas mileage? Thanks.

Rod

You are NOT getting 18 mpg, no matter what you say.
Pure rubbish.

Wait, maybe you measured it going downhill, in which case 18 is entirely possible.

FYI: I got 15 on a Canadian gallon at the best cruising speed, averaged over 600 miles, mostly on cruise control, babying the new H2 all the way home.

Now that was the best these beasts do. On a tiny US gallon, you can't do better than about 13 on the highway. Again, you have to average up and downhill.

I challenge you to prove your claim!

it’s up to 17 put the k&n filter plus the Flowmaster as well as the master craft courser tires 5 psi extra on 35 psi inflate
in feb or march watch out for the hybrid kit for suv it’s supposed to be perfected by then google it on line it’s crazy what is being done

How come a Canadian gallon is bigger and their dollar is so small? I get 7.9 on the smaller US gallon. Hahaha

i thought they sold liters in canada

drive as much as possible down hill lol
the truck is too heavy, aerodynamically sucks, has a massive gas guzzling engine, fat tires, etc. This truck wasn't meant for high mileage. I'm estimating that so far in the life span on our 05 H2 with 412k miles, it cost about 150k in gas consumption! We are the 3rd owners with most of the miles driven by my father in law (RIP). Fun fun truck to drive.

11.2 MPG combined City and HWY. Not bad for a 6,000# truck.. I have driven older 2500 series pick-ups that had gotten 6 to 8 MPG.
BTW the 6.0 & 6.2 LS series V8 Engines are not massive gas guzzlers... drive big block Chevy and get back to me on this statement.

The #1 reason is simple physics; you need to use more energy to move a heavier object.. that same LS engines in the cars gets double the gas mileage... because the cars weigh almost half as much.

NO ONE buys a truck/SUV for incredible fuel economy but trucks serve a purpose if you need to tow, haul parts, etc.
when I want to save fuel and the weather permits I ride my motorcycle, bicycle, or walk...
having to work from home now I get great mileage; I topped off my H2 last week and it's been parked ever since.
