Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Any suggestions on how to improve MPG

Newbee here...but not new to cars...

I figure if you can get around 12 mpg avg and I drive about 10K a year thats $2082 a year at $2.50 gal.

If I go the other route I am considering Tahoe/Expedition I will get around 17 mpg avg and I drive 10K a year thats $1470 a year at $2.50 gal.

A grand total difference of $612 a year, or about $50 a month....

With the VAST difference in capabilities and cache factor of the H2? I can live with that.

Waiting on my STS lease to end...and then I see an H2 in my future. Even got the wife to sign off. She watched a couple episodes of "JERICHO" and now she wants to "be prepared to go anywhere". =-p

Easy 610. I drove a 2 W/D Yukon (same as Tahoe) for 50K miles and averaged 14.7 mpg driving conservatively. My H2 is averaging about 13 driving the same way. You may find the hummer doesn't cost but $30 per month difference. And you get 4 W/D for that...

Default A thought...

This will sound biased coming from the owner of www.wartires.com but one of the primary reasons I run the Goodyear Mt 37s on my h2 is because they improved my gas mileage by 2 mpgs. The tires are designed to run on the middle two treads only which greatly reduces the friction and drag. Of course if you deflate them down to go rock crawling etc the mileage will decrease. Furthermore the tires do touch on all four rows of tread when turning etc.. Just a thought... Otherwise there are definitely some tuning type options out there. Hope this helps

Will your 37" tires and 16.5" rim package fit on a stock H2 with no lift, without rubbing?
An extra 2 MPG is always nice!

You could always try increasing the pressure in your tires. That can sometimes give you 1-2 mpg on the highway but probably not much in the city where you slam on the gas all the time.

In the process of getting a used 2005 (or 2007) H2 regardless of all the negatives I'm hearing. Frankly...who buys an H2 to travel cross country anyway? Space on the road, ppl can get out of my way. Costly parts? ...yeah, I owned a Landrover once. Simple solution own a secondary economy car. But, I agree, anything helps if you can modify a bit to squeeze out a couple more miles.
