Hey all i recently had to swap my fuel pump and 03 H2 and it was down for a while. Battery was disconnected. After job was done I hooked battery up and started the Hummer and noticed the light for my 4x4 was not on. It drives normally and when I hooked up scanner I had 0 codes for service 4 wheel drive and no messages on dash. Could this just be the switch? Just odd that it was working normally before hand and now it is not and I never touched anything to do with it.

 

Just an update.. the 4x4 light is off but 4x4 works. yesterday am the light was on when going to work. and off on way home.. this am was back on and no service 4 wheel dr message. But when I tried to cycle through the 4x4 buttons I hit the button while in neutral and it blinked and then all the lights in 4x4 area came on then just went back to 4x4 mode. it did the same with all the buttons. I am sure it isnt related to other work but it is just odd that it happened right after I did fuel pump. I will go through grounds and what not when weather breaks. But I am just curious if anyone has seen this

 

My 2003 H2 was doing that last spring intermittently. Went ahead and changed the encoder motor. It's right there on the back of your transfer case, literally 5 minutes to swap it out with a new one. Solve the issue. If the light is not lit up it could indicate it hasn't fully shifted to where it needs to be. I figured at 22 years old, any grease in it had completely dried up. If you had the fuel tank down doing that fuel pump, check that harness connector to the encoder motor on the back of the transfer case and make sure you didn't knock it loose.
