First, thanks for your service to this great USA, my brother-in-law (now deceased) was a Seabee in the Navy. He met my older sister while stationed on an Airforce base in Deep south Texas. My dad didn't believe in taking vacations so they would bus me and my twin sister to stay with them on the Airforce base. Brother-in-law would bring me with him to his work station with all the hvy equipment, I visited multiple Airforce bases across the USA. He also spent time in Vietnam, didn't talk about it much but then again I was probably to young to hear it. Sorry a little off subject.

I also own a 77 vette with a built 496bbc that keeps me busy.

Beautiful vette,

If I remember correctly I used a 3/4 threaded nipple, screwed it into the seal and worked it out

Thanks Neal,
Ok on the subject. Np problem. 496 BBC is cool.... Better then the stock motor in that year..... smog city. Working on getting a Mechanic friend of mine to do the tranny filter and seal. He works at an Auto Repair shop where I take the H2 and Vette for Lube and alignment.. They use the HUNTER system. Anyway ..he said they don't do tranny service anymore do to the chance when flushing and the picking up gack from the radiator and having that get into the tranny.

I told him that my Fluid was just changed and flushed at the the open lines due to the fact that they were installing a new radiator. Anyway ..we'll dump the new fluid in a clean 5 gallon bucket from the pan and then do the seal and filter change and reinstall it. He said he pulls the tranny mount lose and jacks the motor slightly to clear the X member to get the pan out.

Waiting on GM special purpose tools to install the seal. Found them cheap on e bay. I know you can use a 19mm socket but I like to have the correct stuff. Also waiting on pan gasket form my dealer. I know they say that the old one is reusable but I'm going fresh.

I'm ****...

Tapered threads of the nipple fit perfectly into the seal, screw it into the ID of the seal and work it out.

Found it on YT when looking when I did mine

yes a regular 3/4" pipe nipple, the post and pictures are located on another site and the image upload will not allow me to upload it here.

the concept is basically the same with the 4L60 but from what I see the 4L60 uses a smaller seal and a 1/2" nipple is used where the 6L80 the inner seal diameter is larger and a 3/4" nipple is used. Its been a little while back when I did it but seems I remember using a 3/4" nipple.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...tructions.html, in this thread it shows a home made tool they are using to remove the seal in the corvettes with the 6L80 trans. They also gives the inner diameter of the seal.

Cool Thanks Neal... Looks like the pipe tang is the way to go. I'm usually over on the CF on the C-2 section Nice write up. on that link. So I just ordered a drain plug system from Summit Racing. I could not find an aftermarket Pan that would fit the H2's funky exhaust x over pipe. I'll hunt up a New Pan and mod it up with the drain plug.

BTW... did you mod your pan with a drain plug or find a Pan that will fit with a drain? Let me know if you did. Then I'll get that one you have. You never mentioned unless I missed it what year H2 you have.

Regards: Mark

2008,

Mine does not have a drain plug and I didn't add one while I had it out, figured with the lift, changing the oil wasn't that big of a deal. I also use Amsoil trans fluid so I push the millage,
