Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Default 2006 hummer H2

Just bought 2006 Hummer H2, needs a battery. The one in it now has side posts and top posts. The top posts are for, ( I assume), the the led lights that are mounted on the front brush guard. There are wires connected to the top posts. The side posts have the main cables attached . The one in it now is yellow optima. But when I go to that battery the info says it doesn’t fit my vehicle. Question is what battery do I get that has both side and top posts?

Whatever group size the Optima you have now is the size you will want. No battery selector is going to tell you that any battery with top posts will fit since no H2 ever came with a battery that has top posts. In this scenario you have a non-standard (the battery itself is standard, it is just non-standard for an H2) battery installed and will have to go with physical dimensions and terminal layout (some have positive on the left vs right) to find a suitable replacement. You can likely reference the model number of the one you have to determine its "group" size. Then just get a replacement that is the same "group" size making sure the replacement has both top and side posts.

No problem. The "group" size is a standard set of physical dimensions and terminal layouts that all automotive battery manufacturers use. One thing I'd personally check is if the current group size battery has the approximate equivalent capacity in cranking amps and cold cranking amps as what the factory size has.

They make various side post adapters that allow for additional wiring, if you decide to go with the stock group 79 battery.
