Those rear quarter panel weatherstrips tend to twist. I found if you use 3m Black Super Weatherstrip 0360 as glue to hold down the twisted part, it works amazing. That stuff is magic and sticks directly to the sheet metal. You will need to hold it in place for about 2 min to ensure you have it placed where you want it. Then, just masking tape it down for the night leaving the door open (in a garage). By the next morning it's placed perfectly back as if it were new.

Another tip once you remove them and get them cleaned up is the weather stripping has metal in it on the part where it goes over and grips the metal lip on the vehicle. Before you put it back on squeeze that metal inside the weatherstripping back closed some to make sure it grips properly. That part often gets the metal inside pulled open a bit too far when removing them. Also as bronxteck mentioned, once you get them very clean its a good idea to add some silicone spray to the outside of them (wait until after you have the reinstalled so the silicone does not prevent adhesion) to give them some added protection.

Edit to add - I checked and the inner GM truck weatherstripping (at least for a 99-07 pickup is not quite the same. On our H2 there is a flap part of it that goes to the inside that the one for the trucks does not have....

Hey Guys, I just got back form a long business trip and saw all the posts. Thank you again Simmon, MixMan and Sean. I went over to the shop today and we are making great progress. I'll send some pics soon if anyone is interested.

Hey Sean, thank you for the offer, I'm sure those would have worked on my 2005 but my son in law had ordered some while I was gone on my trip. I'll remember your offer and willingness to help.

Thanks,

Rick
