Decided to rebuild the power steering box as it was leaking fluid. Was a fun project, learned a lot and could rebuild another one fairly quick. there were some lessons and tricks to this; thanks YouTube for the endless videos/resources. Let’s see how it holds up. Some pics:



Ready for some work



Made some marks before disassembling. After it was put back on marks were lined up.


Cleaned up parts. used gasoline and a brush.

New O rings

Ball bearings in with grease to hold in place.

Ready to be put back in.

Cool! I gave in and got a redhead box. Very happy with it.

 

nice! When I get to work on rebuilding the engine that will be swapped out as well. Just temporary fix. I need to look these up I heard something about these before.

 

Usually steering boxes are just worn out and require more then just o-rings and gaskets. Redhead Boxes are a great source for a bad steering box. They do a great job in replacing more then just O rings and gaskets.

I used one in my old Tahoe, it was expensive but bullet proof. (this was after purchasing a Cardone rebuilt unit that was total trash and failed within 2 months, sometimes you get what you pay for)

 

Just looked up the $ for the Red-Head steering box. Not bad looks solid. I will probably get one of these myself.
